With the Glasgow Commonwealth Games taking place between 23 July- 2 August, it’s time to get inspired for your own school sports day! Here is our guide to help you run and organise a great event. Whether you’re dipping your toes in for an activity or 2, or going all out with a full sports day, there’s plenty of help and guidance to facilitate your event.

The Track and Field events are always a highlight of the games with incredible athletes running, jumping and throwing to compete for that iconic Gold medal. The Glasgow 2026 games promises some outstanding competition that will inspire a new generation of athletes to get involved. Check out some opportunities for Children and Young People below:
- Athletix introduces children to the fundamentals of movement-running, jumping and throwing-through exciting games, creative challenges and confidence-building activities. Find out more here!
- junior parkrun is a free, community 2k event dedicated to 4-14 year olds and their families where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate every Sunday morning
- The Daily Mile is easy, free and fun to do! It is simple to implement and gets children out of the classroom for fifteen minutes every day to run, walk or wheel at their own pace.
- Sportshall houses lots of resources around running your own Sportshall athletics competitions along with resources on the events included and how to deliver them.
