Removal of restrictions on Athletics activity in Wales

The announcement by the First Minister on Wednesday14th July regarding the easing of COVID restrictions in Wales was a huge boost for the sport in terms of return to training, group running, facility use, competitions and events. As a result, the Return to Activity Guidance and any associated restrictions have been removed.

Event organisers, affiliated clubs and running groups should continue to be mindful of the need to risk assess activities and take necessary precautions to minimise the risk of the spread of the virus in line with the latest Welsh Government regulations and guidance. The Track and Trace procedures adopted by clubs and groups throughout the pandemic should be continued as a matter of course. All activity taking place across the sport should take into account both national and any more localised restrictions that may be applicable.

We have already seen the return of a limited number of events across Wales and Welsh Athletics are working with competition providers to establish a safe and comprehensive return to activity. Our licensing process will continue to ensure the safety of competitors, volunteers and spectators at these events.

Please note Welsh Athletics is the only recognised licensing body for all athletics disciplines in Wales [Track & Field, Road, Trail, Mountain & Cross Country].
