Club Support

There are many benefits of affiliation (clubs) and being a member of Welsh Athletics (member benefits).

myAthletics Portal Portal:

We recently introduced the myAthletics Portal to help athletics clubs manage thier club online. For more information about the myAthletics Portal Portal, please click here.

To use the myAthletics Portal to it's full benefits, clubs will need to have a configured Stripe account to take online payments. Full details can be found here.

Once configured, your members can pay club membership fees online with the cash automatically deposited directly to club bank accounts. If configured, a split of the clubs membership fees you collect can be auto redirected to Welsh Athletics as the registration fee to the governing body.

Funding:

Clubs across Wales do a great job in raising funds, generating income from; membership fees, sponsorship, sale of merchandise, accessing grants as well as other sources.

The most common funding accessed by clubs comes via Sport Wales in the form of Be Active Wales Fund. Further information can be found on the Sport Wales Website. If you are looking to submit a Be Active Fund application, please get in touch with us to support you through the process.

The Be Active Wales Fund offers grants from £300 to £50,000 for projects in Wales that intend to do at least one of the following:

  • reduce inequality
  • create long-term sustainability
  • introduce new or different ways of operating

For example, funding could be used to:

  • upskill volunteers where clubs you have gaps in skills or experience
  • buy equipment that allows more people to take part in sport
  • develop new or different ways to deliver physical activity
  • uses technology to engage more people
  • reach people currently under-represented in sport and physical activity.

Note: There are various other grant sources available to clubs and groups in Wales, these can be found  on the Welsh Sport Association website.

Officiating:

Officials are essential for the delivery of competition and support the delivery of the sport in all disciplines and across the whole of Wales. Welsh Athletics offers free officials education to all clubs and club members. For more information, please visit the officials pages.

Coaching:

Coaching is at the heart of the development of athletes of all ages and stages of development, from beginners to elite performers, coaches do an amazing job of helping people progress.

Clubs and club members receive discounted fees on all coaching courses. Further details on the Coaching Qualifcations that Welsh Athletics offer can be found here.

If your club is training multiple coaches it is best to purchase vouchers via Athletics Hub, to find out how to do this click here.

Resources:

Run Wales:

Run Wales is the Welsh Athletics social running programme. Evidence shows us that clubs with a social / recreational offer (eg. A ‘Coach 2 5k’ programme) often experience increases in membership and volunteer numbers as a result. Support in developing your clubs social running offer can be found on the Run Wales website.
