From Clive Willaims:
The Welsh athletics community is sad to learn of the sudden death of the 1959 Welsh Schools triple jump champion Peter Williams on October 20th. He also took the Welsh junior title that year.
He was part of the Welsh Schools team that took part in the first-ever schools international against Scotland in Colwyn Bay in 1959 and in the return fixture in Edinburgh the following year. This competition was the forerunner of the present SIAB competition which now features all of the home countries and Ireland.
Although better known latterly for his involvement in Welsh rugby, he continued to have a great interest in athletics and was in Barcelona in 2012 to witness his nephew, Rhys, win the European 400m hurdles title.
Peter was also a keen supporter of his younger brother, rugby all-time great JJ Williams, and was always present to see him in his younger sprinting days when he won four Welsh titles.
The thoughts of everyone in Welsh athletics go to his wife Joyce and his family and to nephew James, the Welsh Athletics Chief Executive, Rhys and niece Kathryn.
