First steps back to the track

Following today’s much anticipated Welsh Government announcement, there are a number of significant changes to the restrictions for the sport in Wales;

  • From tomorrow, Saturday 13th, outdoor sports courts are permitted to reopen meaning that athletics tracks and facilities will be able to start opening up across Wales. We are in close contact with facility operators across the country and will be posting more information about opening and access in due course.
  • The number of adults who can meet up together outside to exercise together remains at 4 adults from 2 households, but you will now be able to travel locally to meet up. "Local" is defined as 5 miles but with an allowance for interpretation in more rural areas. Children (u11) are excluded from these limits, but there is no detail yet on the number of young people who could meet up outside to exercise and from how many different households.
  • Organised Children's activities look set to be allowed to restart from the 27th March.
  • All schools can fully reopen from 12th April allowing school athletics to restart, increasing the chance of inter-school competition being a realistic prospect for the summer term.

We will be reviewing and updated our guidance documents and Frequently Asked Questions as soon as we have more detail - they can all be found on our Return to Athletics page.
