The award for Most Influential Campaign, sponsored by Sportscover Europe, went to Welsh Athletics for our simple yet powerful Daily Mile campaign which encourages primary school children to run, walk, or wheel for 15 minutes at least three times a week – with no equipment, kit, or special space required. There are over 50% of schools in Wales who are actively implementing the Daily Mile in their weekly curriculum.
Thanks to all the great work by Cath Bingham we were fortunate enough to win this amazing award.
Cath shared:
We are delighted to receive this award! Participation in The Daily Mile across Wales continues to grow thanks to the inspiring teachers who prioritise children's health and wellbeing.
It was great to be joined on the night by some of our wonderful teachers who champion The Daily Mile in their schools and to hear firsthand the positive impact it has on their learners.
Welsh Athletics are proud implementation partners of The Daily Mile in Wales; we are committed to growing engagement and helping to build lifelong habits of physical activity!
We also heard from Welsh Athletics CEO, James Williams, who shared:
My thanks to the Welsh Sports Association for this prestigious award, the evening was a wonderful celebration of Welsh sport, and a reminder of the impact that sport is having on wider society in Wales.
Our commitment to supporting the development of the sport in Wales will never waiver, but we are also mindful of the impact that running can have to improve physical and mental wellbeing.
The ambition with the Daily Mile is to get as many young people across Wales to become physically active. We now have 50% of primary schools in Wales signed up, and we hope of the coming years we can work towards every school in Wales having this programme as part of their school day.
If we achieve this ambition then we will be playing a crucial role in creating a healthier, more resilient Wales – with the hope of many, many more young people developing a life long love of sport and physical activity.
