Newly crowned Welsh 5,000m Champion Tom Marshall claims Cardiff Sunset 10k victory.

Alaw Beynon-Thomas was the women’s victor in the multi-lap race around Bute Park on Wednesday evening.

The race organised by Welsh Athletics was hoped to provide a racing opportunity over 10km where athletes could look to prepare themselves for a host of events over the distance this Autumn.

Marshall’s victory was typically well paced for the Cardiff man who claimed the 5,000m title at the Welsh Senior and U15 Championships on the weekend by a whisker over young superstar Osian Perrin in 14:51.

His 30:32 clocking here came ahead of Kurt Taylor of Bristol & West AC who finished second in 30:35 with Cardiff Athletics’ Matt Edwards right behind, recording the same time.

Beynon-Thomas used the first small lap to find her rhythm with Donna Morris in close contact for the early stages. Her eventual time of 35:53 saw her finish 25 seconds ahead of Morris of Builth & District Running Club in a lifetime best of 36:18.

Chloe Dooley of Cardiff Athletics finished third, also secring a P.B. in 36:24.
