Day one of the Welsh Under-13, Under-15, Under-20 and Para Indoor Championships saw a new Welsh record and several championship best records.
One of the stand-out performance of the day came from Darcy Coslett (Llanelli AAC) in the under-20 400m.

The Welsh age group 300m record holder not only smashed the eight-year-old championship record of 56.63 but also broke the 21-year-old Welsh age record of 55.75 set by Faye Harding (Sale Harriers).
Coslett stopped the clock in 55.57 to book her place in the final in spectacular style.
However, the 15-year-old wasn’t finished yet, the final saw her go even faster, crossing the line in 55.18. Lois Codling (Newport Harriers), claimed silver in a PB of 57.45 and Millie Webb (Cardiff Athletics) who earned Welsh championship bronze in 58.44.
There was a championship best family double in the men’s and women’s under-20 hurdles events.
In the under-20m 60m hurdles, Iolo Grant (Cardiff Archers) smashed his own championship record of 7.94 as he broke the tape in a rapid new PB of 7.69m to take gold.
There were also PBs for Luca Phillips (Cardiff Archers) who took the Welsh championships silver medal in 8.47 and Thomas Croft (Reading AC), who claimed bronze in 8.72.

Not to be outdone by her brother, Menna Grant (Cardiff Archers) took the women’s under-20 60m hurdles with a new championship best and PB of 8.61 to improve Sophie Lisk’s previous best of 8.76 last year.

Lilly Noble (Deeside AAC) was second in 8.95 and Elin Roberts (Guildford and Godalming AC) completed the podium with 9:04.
Another championship best fell in the semi-finals of the under-20 men’s 60m as Lewis Stephens (Cardiff Athletics) blasted his way to victory in a new PB of 6.78, which bettered the existing mark set by Paris Olympic bronze medallist Jeremiah Azu in 2019.
Stephens, who finished second to Azu in last month’s senior 60m final, then went on to take under-20 gold by winning the final in 6.79. The Welsh championship silver went to Connor Dean (Colwyn Bay AC) in 7.00 (.994) the tiniest fraction ahead of 15-year-old Finnley Roynon (Cwmbran Harriers) 7.00 (.998).

Jessica Mantle (Cardiff Athletics), who has started 2025 in spectacular form, followed up her 60m gold at the Welsh Athletics Senior Championships last month by taking the Under-20 title in 7.54.
Mantle was pushed all the way by Nell Desir (Cardiff Archers) who took silver in 7.58. Ava-Lexi Placide (Cardiff Archers) celebrated a PB of 7.82 and a bronze medal.
Sebastian Mitchell-Fofana (Cardiff Archers) only achieved one legal jump in the under-20 men’s triple jump. However, he made it count as his second attempt of 12.73m was enough to take the title. Cobie Phillips (Cardiff Archers) earned silver with a new PB of 12.53m, while bronze medallist Jake Rowlands (Menai Track and Field) also achieved a PB of 12.35m.
Great Britain under-18 international Owen Garrett (Yate and District AC) was a convincing winner of the Under-20 men’s shot put with a winning distance of 13.33m, ahead of William Richards-Baldwin (Gloucester AC) with 11.18m. Sebastian Mitchell-Fofana (Cardiff Archers) followed up his triple jump gold with a bronze, registering 10.38m.
Charlie Shuall (Swansea Harriers) pulled out a season’s best 4.30m to just edge out Jonathan Mellor (Cardiff Archers) on countback to win the under-20 men’s pole vault. Harry Newton (Swansea Harriers) won bronze with a best of 4.00m.
The women’s under-20 pole vault title went to Amy Beynon (Swansea Harriers), who took the title in a season’s best 3.01m. Ava Lane (Cardiff Athletics) took silver with 2.91m ahead of Pollyanna Morris (Cardiff Archers) with a PB of 2.81m.
The men’s under-20 400m Welsh title went to Jacob Winter (Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers) in a new PB of 51.29, ahead of Iwan Wilson (Llanelli AAC) in 52.31 and Lucas Salvage (Newport Harriers) in 52.43.
Elsewhere, in the under-15 age group events, Jacob Barnes (Cardiff Athletics) was just outside his PB as he won a close under-15 boys 60m final just ahead of Joshua Thomas (Cardiff Archers) who ran a PB of 7.65 and Gethin Hughes (Cardiff Athletics) in 7.71.

The girls under-15 60m final saw all three medallists claim new PBs in a closely fought race. Abbi Beadle (Cardiff Athletics) emerged victorious in 8.09, with Eva Anwyl (Sale Harriers Manchester) second in 8.19 and Bethany Staddon (Bracknell AC) third in 8.22.
The under-13 boys 1500m saw Zac Munn (Cardiff Athletics) muster a new three-second PB of 4:51.23 to take the title from Rowan Carson (Bridgend Athletics) who earned silver in 4:55.25. Molly-Mae McQueen (Swansea Harriers) was a comfortable winner in the girls race, claiming gold in 5:20.79.
Jayden Jones (Rhymney Valley AC) made a successful start to a potentially busy weekend when he won the under-13 boys long jump with a new personal best ahead of Santino Proctor (Cardiff Athletics), who also PBd with 4.56m.
Indeed Jones, followed up that victory with a second gold medal when he won the under-13 boys 60m hurdles in a season’s best 10.46 ahead of Xavier Wilby-Davies (Cardiff Archers) in a PB of 11.01.
