Welsh athletes Owen Smith (Cardiff; Matt Elias), Melissa Courtney(Poole; Rob Denmark) and Joe Brier (Swansea; Matt Elias) will represent British Athletics at this weekend's European Indoor Athletics Championships at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow.
Welsh Outdoor Champion Owen Smith will compete in the Men's 400m and 4 x 400m Relay, putting on the British Vest for the second successive indoor season after competing in the 4 x 400m Relay at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 2018. He recently finished second at the British Athletics Indoor Championships with a new lifetime best of 46.37 seconds and will compete in his first individual 400m event at a major championship in Glasgow.
Gold Coast Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Melissa Courtney will compete in the Women's 3,000m on Friday. She secured her place on the team with a second placed finish at the British Athletics Indoor Championships, and recently set a new Welsh Indoor Record over the distance when she ran 8:43:36 in Karlsruhe.
Swansea's Joe Brier will earn his first senior British vest as he forms part of a strong Men's 4 x 400m Relay team along with training partner Smith. Brier finished 4th in the 400m at the British Athletics Indoor Championships, which was enough to secure his place on the Relay squad that looks set to challenge for a medal in Glasgow this weekend.
