Welsh Junior Championships Round Up

Aliyah Afolabi (Cardiff) dominated the u13 girl’s 100m winning in a time of 12.65s after setting a CBP of 12.43s in the qualifying round. Hollie Taylor of Newport was second with a time of 13.55s, with Ava Lexi Placide (Cardiff) rounding out the podium with a time of 13.63s.

Not to be outdone, in the u13 men’s 100m, Reagan McCarthy (Cardiff) also set a CBP and Welsh Age Group record in the qualifying round, stopping the clock in 12.04s before going on to win with a time of 12.12s. Lucca Tardivel (Deeside) was second in 12.50s and Connor Evans (Neath) third with a time of 13.19s.

CBP seemed to be the theme of the 100m, with u15 Nell Desir (Cardiff Archers) also setting a new one in the qualifying rounds of the u17 girl's 100m, running 11.84s. She then went on to win the final, this time with a time of 11.77s, bettering it once again, and setting a new WELSH RECORD in the process, ahead of Olivia Gillespie (Newport) and Jessica Lee (Carmarthen) who ran times of 12.39s and 12.40s.

There was another CBP in the u17 girl’s 1,500m, as Bethan Hardman (Cardiff Archers) ran 4:50.98s to take victory ahead of Olivia Morgan (Cardiff Archers) who finished in 4:55.03 and Elen Ruck (Yate and District) who ran 4:58.94.

Bryony Boyce (Cardiff) dominated the u13 girl’s 1,500m in a time of 4:55.28, whilst Georgie Davies (Swansea) finished in 5:26.12 and Isobel Davies (Cardiff) third in 5:32.02.

In the u13 boy’s shot put, there was another CBP, this time for Lucca Tarcivel (Deeside) who threw a best of 10.68m to take a convincing victory ahead of Lachlan Robbie (Cardiff Archers) and Caius Davies (Aberdare) who threw 9.62m and 8.85m.

Anna Rose Merchant (Cardiff) ran a personal best at the best possible time, as the u17 clocked 2:16.35 to cross the line first in the 800m. Behind her was Cara Scott (Menai) and Ruby Davies (Derby) who ran 2:20.36 and 2:20.75.

Summer Evans (Carmarthen) took a convincing victory in the u13 girl’s shot put with a best of 8.45m, ahead of Grace Morris (Blaenau) who’s best throw was 7.81m. Whilst in the u17 men’s triple jump, Osian Parry (Cardiff Archers) became Welsh Champion with a best of 12.39m ahead of Sean Hopkins (Cardiff Archers and Abdul Afolabi (Cardiff Archers) who jumped 11.93m and 11.62m.

In a heavily entered u17 men’s long jump competition, Benjamin Parker (Aberdare) took the victory with a the longest jump of 6.56m, ahead of triple jump champion Osian Parry (Cardiff Archers) and Iolo Grant (Cardiff Archers) who recorded best jumps of 6.23m and 6.20m.

It was a convincing victory and a CBP for Jessica Lee (Carmarthen) in the u17 girl’s long jump, as she came away with a best jump of 5.82m ahead of Megan Taylor (Cardiff Archers) and Nia Powell (Cardiff Archers) who leaped 5.39m and 5.18m.
