Llanelli Half Marathon 

It was a great weekend at the Llanelli Half Marathon.

The men's podium consisted of Dewi Griffiths taking the victory in with a strong run of 1:09.14, Andrew Horsfall-Turner taking 2nd place in 1:14.11, and Sam Humphrey finishing 3rd in 1:15.02. Andrew How of Pontypridd Roadents AC was the 2nd Welsh athlete to cross the line with Craig Jones of Swansea Harriers and Mark Harrison of Llanelli AC following in 5th and 6th​​​​​​.

In the women's race, Sioned Howells of Amman Valley Harriers was the first woman to cross the line taking the victory in 1:20.28. Donna Morris of Builth and District followed for 2nd place in 1:21.15, and Carys Hughes secured 3rd in 1:22.50.

Nations Cup

Following on from last week’s Vanoni races at Morbegno, Italy, Welsh athletes will be preparing for this Sunday’s, probably, one-off Nations Cup International race at Chiavenna, which is also in the same Lombardy region of Northern Italy.

The event (Val Bregaglia Trail) starts in the Switzerland village of Promontogno and finishes in Chiavenna: 19km/650m Ascent - 1000m Descent. Wales athletes will face stiff competition against competitors from the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Hungary, Italy, Kenya, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland as well as the other Home Nation countries. Two of the male athletes who competed at the Trofeo Vanoni race (Gavin Roberts & Tom Wood - Eryri) will be joined by MDC pair, Matt O’Keefe & Simon Roberts with Anna Bracegirdle returning to Italy, after competing in last week’s Female Vanoni as Wales’s only female representative in the Nations Cup.

Tom Woods led the Welsh team home in 26th position overall and 3rd U/23 with a time of 1:28:30 followed by: 49th Gavin Roberts 1:35:31. 52nd Simon Roberts 1:35:52. 70th Matt O’Keefe 1:39:59 and 95th overall, Anna Bracegirdle 1:48:52.
