British Athletics Cross Challenge and UK CAU Inter-Counties XC, Loughborough, March 7

James Hunt rounded off an excellent cross country season with a fourth-placed finish in senior men's race in Loughborough. The Cardiff Athletics man clocked 38:26 over the tough 10K course, behind winner Mahamed Mahamed, who clocked 37:21.

Nick Beer 10K, Saturday, March 7

Eryri Harrier Dilwyn Powell-Jones won the Nick Beer 10K in Llandudno, breaking the tape in 34:51.

Second place went to Ifan Dafydd in 35:06, while Prestatyn Running Club's Stephen Skates was third in 35:23.

The women's race was won by Lydia Sharpe in 39:08, with Eryri Harrier Andrea Rowlands second in 41:32 and Rachel Shipley, of Abergele Harriers,  third in 42:57.

Risk Kitchen Llanelli Half Marathon, Sunday, March 6

Llanelli Half Marathon finally went ahead on Sunday after having been postponed due to Storm Ciara last month.

Swansea Harrier Dewi Griffiths (Kevin Evans) won the men's race in a time of 66:52, while Micky Morris Racing Team's Natasha Cockram (Tony Houchin) won the women's race in a big personal best of 75:27.

In windy conditions,  Luke Williams, of San Domenico Running was second in the men's race in 69:54, ahead of Swansea Harrier Matthew Rees in 71:04.

Second in the women's race was Carys Hughes, of Cardiff Athletics, in 80:35, with Rachel Davies, of Swansea Harriers, third in 83:37.

British Masters Athletic Federation Indoor Championships, Lee Valley

Welsh Sports Hall Final, March 7th 

Welsh Athletics held its’ annual Sporshall final at Cwmbran Stadium. The event is the culmination of a series of regional qualifiers held across the 8 School Districts and represents one of the largest grassroots events in Wales with many athletes who sit outside the club system. It was again teams from North West Wales and Powys which dominated the event.  Honours were even this year with the 4 team titles shared equally. North West Wales also picked up 2 team silver medals with Powys and Afan Nedd Tawe sharing the others. Full Report

Loughborough Winter Throws

There were some strong season-opening performances from Welsh Athletes at the first outdoor throws event of 2020 with Bethany Moule starting her season with a PB of 49m71 in the Javelin alongside Beth Ress who threw 48m60, Osian Jones throwing an impressive 72m59 in the Hammer, and Harrison Walsh (F44) launched the discus out to a new of 51m30  Full Results
