CHOCOHOLICS 5K ROAD RACE AND FUN RUN – NEWTOWN, APRIL 3

Home runners dominated the podiums at the annual Chocoholics 5K Road Race and Fun Run organised by Maldwyn Harriers on Good Friday.

There was a clean sweep in the men’s race as Aled Breeze took the win in 16:49. Dillon Gill was second in 16:54 ahead of Xander Brandon-Higgs in 17:29.

Donna Morris (Builth Wells) won the women’s race and finished seventh overall in 18:37. The second female runner was Robin Jones (Maldwyn Harriers) in 20:42. Next home was Maldwyn clubmate Melissa Turnbull in 21:12.

YEOVIL OLYMPIADS AC SPRING OPEN DAY 1 – APRIL 4

A number of Welsh athletes, including the likes of Great Britain international Funmi Oduwaiye, headed to Somerset on Easter Saturday for the Yeovil Olympiads Spring Open.

The Cardiff Athletics thrower, who has represented GB at the Paralympics and World Para Athletics Championships, won the women’s under-18 to seniors discus by more than a metre with a best of 11.84m

Later in the day, Oduwaiye also took the women’s under-18 to seniors discus title with a throw of 37.61m.

Second place went to fellow Welsh athlete Gwenan Lewis (Swansea Harriers), who celebrated a new personal best of 35.15m.

There were a number of other fine performances by Welsh throwers including experienced UK championships medallist Gareth Winter (Woodford Green Athletic Club with Essex Ladies) who won the men’s under-18 to senior shot put with 15.83m.

In the men’s under-18, under-20 to seniors discus, Winter (2kg) finished fourth with 43.35m, while Welsh Athletics National Development Programme thrower Owen Garrett (Yate) (1.75kg) was second overall with 50.38m.

Three young South Wales Steeplechase Regional Development Programme athletes put in strong performances during the meeting.

There was a victory in the under-18 boys steeplechase as Will Chalk (Newport Harriers) also claimed a new PB of 6:24.54.

Isabelle Lawley (Cardiff Archers) also claimed a win in the under-16 girls 1500m steeplechase, recording a time of 5:33.78.

Jude Jenkins (Neath Harriers) enjoyed a new personal best of 4:53.14 as he finished third in the under-16 boys 1500m steeplechase.

The mixed under-18, under-20 and senior 400m hurdles final was won by Joseph Beresford (Swansea Harriers) in 58.25. The B final saw under-18 athlete Poppy Turton (Newport Harriers) finish second in a new PB of 1:06.55.

The under-14 and over 800m A final was won by Craig Williams (Newport Harriers) in 1:54.47.

Under-14 athlete Tomi Jones (Swansea Harriers) finished second in the 800m C final in a new PB of 2:21.27.

Meanwhile, in the under-14 girls 75m hurdles final, Eryn Bunston (Cardiff Athletics) finished third in a new PB of 14.39. Bunston also claimed a PB of 15.04 finishing second in the under-14 and over 100m D final.

The Under-14 and over 100m B final saw Rhys Newington-Wise (Team Bath AC) finish second as he equalled his PB of 12.33.

URBAN TRAIL DE LILLE AG2R LA MONDIALE 5K – APRIL 4

Multi-talented Great Britain international Cari Hughes (Menai Track and Field) finished just outside the top 10 in this high quality road 5K in France.

Hughes finished 13th in a time of 15:18 at the Urban Trail event in Lille. The women’s race was won by Ethiopia’s World Under-20 cross country champion Marta Alemayo in 14:15. The men’s race was won by France’s Jimmy Gressier in a new European record of 12:49.

TEIFI 10 MILE ROAD RACE 2026 – LAMPETER, APRIL 5

The Teifi 10 is a fast and scenic race taking runners along the River Teifi and through the university town of Lampeter.

Easter Sunday’s men’s race was won by Sion Lewis (London Heathside) in 56:00. Ollie George (Sarn Helen) was second in 56:47 with club-mate Rhodri Williams third in 57:59.

The women’s race was won by Polly Summers (Sarn Helen) 1:00.25, who finished almost a minute ahead of Donna Morris (Builth Wells), who had won the Chocoholics 5K in Newtown on Good Friday. Third place went to Lucy Richards (Sarn Helen) in 1:05.52.

YEOVIL OLYMPIADS AC SPRING OPEN DAY 2 – APRIL 6

Day two of the Yeovil Olympiads AC Spring Open saw more Welsh athletes taking part.

Among them was Welsh Athletics National Development Programme multi-eventer Tiana Odugbesan (Cardiff Archers).

Odugbesan, who enjoyed a successful indoor season, finished eighth overall in the mixed under-16, under-18, under-20 and seniors high jump with a best of 1.45m.

Later in the day, Odugbesan finished seventh overall in the mixed under-16 and under-18 javelin (500g) with a best of 30.90m.

In the 400m under-18 and senior men’s B final, Rhys Newington-Wise (Team Bath) won in 54.63.
