WELSH ROAD RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS – SENIOR AND MASTERS – PARC BRYN BACH, MARCH 28

Les Croupiers Running Club and Swansea Harriers took the senior women’s and men’s titles at the Welsh Road Relay Championships for Seniors and Masters on Saturday.

More than 600 runners took part in the event which also saw masters categories from the 35 to 65 age groups contested and two junior races, which were trials for the TCS Mini London Marathon.

In the senior women’s relay, Les Croupiers A overcame the reigning champions Swansea Harriers in sunny but blustery conditions.

The Cardiff-based club completed the four 5,400m legs in a total time of 1:19.53, to finished ahead of Swansea Harriers in 1:22.12 and Neath Harriers in 1:23.49.

The Les Croupiers winning team featured Nynke Kuiper (20:22), Louise Flynn (20:17), Emily Fenn (20:34) and Georgia Palmer, who ran the fastest leg of the entire race as she gave her team a flying start on the first leg with 18:40.

Swansea’s fastest leg, and the second fastest individual leg overall was recorded by Welsh Athletics National Development Programme steeplechase specialist Millie Gold in 19:35. Neath’s fastest athlete was Emily Davies in 19:42.

The senior men’s title was retained by Swansea Harriers A as they clocked 1:06.14 across the four 5,400m legs. Meirionnydd Running A were just behind in 1:06.42, with Les Croupiers A finishing third in 1:08.09.

The winning Swansea Harriers team was Connor Rogers (16:39), Jonathan Butler (16:43), Jac Hopkins (16:43) and Great Britain cross country international Dafydd Jones, who ran the fastest leg of the race in 16:09.

Meirionnydd’s fastest leg, and the second fastest leg overall was completed by Dion Griffith in 16:28, while Les Croupiers went to Samuel Griffiths with 16:28.

In the masters age groups, which were run over three legs of 5,400m, the Men’s 35 title went to the home club Parc Bryn Bach RC A in 58:18, while Les Croupiers took the Women’s 35 title in 1:06.54.

Les Croupiers excellent day continued in the Men’s 45 race, which they won in 58:58, and also claimed the Women’s 45 title in 1:08.15.

There was another double in the Men’s and Women’s 55 relays, where Chepstow Harriers took the honours with winning times of 1:03.02 and 1:14.08 respectively.

Les Croupiers were once again triumphant in the Men’s 65 race where they claimed the title in 1:13.35, while the Women’s 65 race was won by Taf Running and Orienteering Team (TROTs) A in 1:27.02.

There was a host of young Welsh running talent competing for places at the prestigious TCS Mini London Marathon in the junior men’s and women’s races, which opened the action on Saturday.

The Junior Women’s race was won by under-15 athlete Martha Bown, who had already won Welsh cross country and indoor track titles this year.

The Menai Track and Field athlete completed the 2.6K course in 8:53 ahead of multiple Welsh middle distance age group record holder Libby Hale (Swansea Harriers) in 8:56. Hale’s fellow under-17 athlete Julia Teka (Cardiff Athletics) was just a second behind in third place.

There was an even closer finish in the Junior Men’s race where under-17 National Development Programme athlete Lucas Salvage (Newport Harriers) won in 7:45, edging out under-15 athlete Nate Greig (Bridgend Athletics) in 7:46. Will Chalk (Newport Harriers) was third in 7:49.

PRAGUE HALF MARATHON – MARCH 28

Former Welsh women’s marathon record holder Natasha Wilson (Micky Morris Racing Team) finished seventh in the Prague Half Marathon on Saturday.

Wilson, who has been selected to represent Great Britain at this summer's European Athletics Championships, finished in 1:09.54.

The race was won by Kenya’s Caroline Makandi Gitonga in 1:06.16. Wilson was the top European finisher in a high class international field.

SAN DOMENICO 20M/10M – MERTHYR, MARCH 29

The San Domenico 10 and 20 mile races start and finish at the Merthyr Leisure Village with the out and back course taking in the scenic and undulating Taff Trail.

More than 150 runners took part in the 10 mile race where the men’s winner was Harry Fisher, who clocked 55:10, finishing ahead of Daniel Phelps (Team Bath AC) in 56:44. Michael Davies (Port Talbot Harriers) was third in 56:55.

The first female athlete was Naomi Sutton (Run4All Neath) in 59:53. Ffion Davies (Port Talbot Harriers) was second in 1:08.49 with Bethan Richardson (Pont-y-pwl and District) in 1:11.35.

There were than 200 participants in the 20 mile race with Matthew Verran (Swansea Harriers) completing the course in 1:55.31.Oliver Webb (Cardiff Triathletes) was second  in 1:57.03 and David Cole (Cardigan RC) third in 1:59.07.

Antoinette Rose (Lliswerry Runners) was the first female athlete home in 2:15.57. Clubmate Laura Cameron was second in 2:17.28. Porthcawl Harriers runners Sally Pugsley and India Greenslade recorded the same gun time of 2:26.24. Greenslade clocked a chip time of 2:25.52 and Pugsley 2:26.04.

SWANSEA 10 MILER – MARCH 29

The event offers both 5 and 10 mile races on a fast and flat course along the beautiful Swansea promenade.

The 5K men’s race was won by Alex Davies in 32:48 ahead of Harry Thomas in 32:59 and Abdul Miah in 33:03.

The winner of the women’s race was Megan Clements (Swansea Harriers) who was also fifth overall in 33:33, next home was Lisa Faunch (Clwb Run Wales) in 33:44 with Sienna Hurley (Swansea Harriers) third in 37:10.

Mike Roderick (Tri Hard Harriers) won the men’s 10 mile race in 54:39 ahead of Ned Gilford (Rugby) and Daniel Thrift (Pontypridd Roadents) in 58:14.

The women’s race was won by Lydia Morgan in 1:08.11 with Ella Mcalister (Run4All Neath) second in 1:15.57 and Eleanor Nichols-Grey third in 1:16.06.
