Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays, Mississippi 

Hammer thrower Amber Simpson broke her personal best and the 60m barrier competing for the University of Memphis at the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays at Mississippi State University over the weekend. The Deeside AAC athlete beat her best distance and college's record of 59.76, set at the Rhodes Invitational last weekend, when she landed a throw of 60.33m in only her second collegiate meet of her athletics career.

Race Walking Association Match

At the RWA Inter-Area Match at Eltham on Saturday, all four Welsh race-walkers taking part set new personal best times. Leading the way was Swansea Harrier under-20 athlete Megan Stratton-Thomas, who clocked a new PB of 27:18.9 finishing sixth in the senior women's 5000m. In the same race, Menai Track and Field's under-17 competitor Georgia Parkinson was 16th in a new lifetime best of 31:42.7. Also in the senior women's race another Swansea U-20 athlete, Shannon Thomas, clocked a new best time of 33:52.4 as she finished 19th. In the senior men's race, Cardiff under-20 man Daniel McKerlich finished ninth in a new best time of 27:58.2.

Taff Trail startCardiff Taff Trail Half Marathon

There was a one-two for Les Croupiers Running Club at Sunday's Cardiff Taff Trail Half Marathon, which started from Pontcanna Fields before following the Taff Trail out to Tongwynlais and back.  First home was Dylan Nazareth in a time of 1:13.36, ahead of clubmate Doug Nicholls in 1:13:50. Third place went to Oliver Williams, of White Rock Runners, in 1:16.21.

It was also a good day for Les Croupiers in the women's race, which was won by club member Maria Zubizarreta in 1:30.18. Second, was Michelle Weaver in 1:31.21, while Bridgend Running Club's Gina Hardman finished third in 1:37.46. Full results here. [Photo Credit - Paul Stillman]

Forest of Dean Spring Trails Half Marathon

Stefan Simms, of Micky Morris Racing Team finished fourth in the Forest of Dean Spring Trails Half Marathon on Sunday. The V50 athlete clocked a time of 1:18.26 at the event which also incorporated the UK Trail Running Championships Short Distance event.

It was also a busy weekend of development activity across the country as young athletes and coaches build towards the outdoor season.
