ATLETICA GENEVE - EAP – JUNE 21
A number of Welsh 400m runners shone in Switzerland on Friday night.
World Class Programme Olympic Podium athlete Joe Brier (Swansea Harriers) continued his progress this season as he ran a season’s best 46.41 to win his heat.
There was also a season’s best for Charlie Carvell (Telford AC/Welsh Anglo Athletes), who finished fourth in his race in 46.32. Meanwhile, Evan Blackman (Corby AC) was sixth in his race in 46.94.
Double Commonwealth Games athlete Hannah Brier (Swansea Harriers) continued her consistent form as she claimed a third place finish in 52.82, while Tess McHugh (Sale Harriers Manchester) followed home in sixth, clocking 53.20.
INTERNATIONALES LEICHTATHLETIK MEETING ANHALT – DESSAU, JUNE 21
Welsh Athletics Performance Programme middle-distance star Piers Copeland (Pontypridd Roadents) finished sixth in Germany as he achieved a season’s best 3:37.01.
BMC GRAND PRIX – WORLD ATHLETICS CHALLENGER – LOUGHBOROUGH, JUNE 21
There was a large Welsh contingent competing at the British Milers Club Grand Prix at Loughborough on Saturday.
Following on from his Welsh Under-20 Championships middle distance double at Swansea last weekend, Thomas Loynes (Neath Harriers) was sixth in the 800m D race in 1:51.88 – narrowly outside his personal best of 1:51.75.
The man who pushed Loynes all the way in the 800m final in Swansea, Louis Starr (Rugby and Northampton), celebrated a new PB of 1:52.55 to finish third in the 800m G race.
Under-17 athlete Lois Codling (Newport Harriers) also earned a new PB of 2:11.25 as she finished fourth in the women’s 800m D race. The time meets the consideration standard for the National Development Programme.
Codling’s under-17 training partner Dylan Evans (Newport Harriers) was another to celebrate a PB as he finished seventh in the men’s 800m J race with 1:57.50.
BUCS steeplechase silver medalist Oliver James (Bournemouth) clocked a flat 1500m PB in the C race finishing fifth in 3:50.38.
Welsh steeplechase international and NDP athlete Henry Evans (Cardiff Athletics) also showed his speed on the flat in the 1500m D race where he was 8th in a PB of 3:53.74.
Sam Roberts (Retford) won the 1500m F race in 3:52.87, while Poppy Elton (Worcester) won the 1500m D race in a PB of 4:31.87, while United States-bound Beca Bown (Menai Track and Field) was second in a season’s best 4:36.98.
SKYRUN ERYRI 2025 SNOWDON SKYRACE – JUNE 21
The iconic Skyrunning event features a series of races over various distances and terrains in the stunning Eryri National Park.
The women’s Skyrace was won by Wales’ Cat Wain-Hobson, who completed the course in 7:59.12, ahead of England’s Mary Marshall and Egg Cameron.
The men’s winner was England’s Ed Brewer in 5:51.29. The highest Welsh finisher was Craig Lowe, who placed fourth in 6:35.34.
The 14 Peaks Ultra race was won by Welsh athlete Lizzie Richardson in 8:12.15 which also saw her finish 9th overall, she was followed home by England pair Holly Wootten and Lauren Woodwiss. The men’s race was won by England’s Hugh Chatfield in 6:39.56.
The women’s Copper Sky Trail race was won in 4:14.29 by Bethan Logan, ahead of fellow Welsh runner Anna Buckingham in 4:48.34. The men’s race was won in 3:26.25 by England’s Sam Atkinson.
UK YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE – MIDLANDS SOUTH WEST A – NEATH, JUNE 21
One of the top performers at Cwrt Herbert was Rowan Carson (Bridgend Athletics), who carried on his excellent form from last weekend’s Welsh Junior Athletics Championships.
Carson won the under-13 boys race A race for South Wales in 2:15.90, while Jayden Jones impressed for Gwent by winning the under-13 boys long jump with 4.95m.
Heidi Crabb (Newport Harriers) won the under-13 girls A race in 2:32.00, while Grace Breach (Neath Harriers) clocked 2:32.20.
South Wales took the honours on the day with 635 points ahead of Neath Harriers with 557. Gwent Harriers were third with 428.5 .
MEETING PREMIUM DE TROYES-AUBE – JUNE 22
Cari Hughes (Cardiff Athletics) ran her first race over 1500m this season in France on Sunday, finishing 11th in a time of 4:14.50.
NORTHEN TRACK AND FIELD LEAGUE – WEST ONE SOUTH – LIVERPOOL, JUNE 22
National Development Programme sprinter Toby Lemon (Deeside AAC) ran a new 400m personal best of 50.96 in Liverpool.
JUNIOR INTER-COUNTIES MOUNTAIN RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIPS – CLOUGHA PIKE, JUNE 22
North Wales athletes were amongst the entries for the Junior Inter Counties Mountain Running Championships.
The top Welsh finishers in the under-15 categories were Elis Owen (Eryri Harriers) in the male race and Holly Worth (Menai Track and Field) in the female race.
In the under-17 categories, Noa Dafydd (Betsy Runaways) was 23rd while Tamsin Seguin (Menai Track and Field) was 9th.
The Under-19 races saw Tomos Morgan (Menai Track and Field) finish 21st.
