SALFORD 10K ROAD RACE – MANCHESTER, APRIL 18

World Championship marathon runner Josh Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) enjoyed a very Good Friday in Manchester at the start of the Easter weekend.

The Wales and Great Britain International won the men’s race in 30:28 ahead of Harry Johnson (Halifax Harriers), who crossed the line in 30:41.

There was further Welsh success in the women’s race where Eden O’Dea (Deeside AAC) finished second in a new personal best of 35:32.

Meanwhile, fellow Deeside AAC athlete Mia Roberts continued her comeback by claiming third place in 36:47.

LOUGHBOROUGH OUTDOOR OPEN INCLUDING BUCS 10,000m – APRIL 19

Great Britain international and Welsh National Development Programme athlete Daf Jones (Swansea Harriers) won the BUCS 10,000 in a brilliant new track personal best of 29.48.

Elsewhere at the meeting, Rhys Simmonds (Cardiff Athletics/Loughborough Students) won his 3,000m heat in a new PB of 9:06.11.

In the senior men’s 400m hurdles, Osian Parry (Cardiff Archers) won his heat in 55.40. Team mate, and fellow NDP athlete Sophie Lisk ran a new PB of 61.16 as she finished second in her 400m hurdles heat.

Amelia Fettis (Newport Harriers) won the under-23 women’s hammer throw with a distance of 55.86m.

Under-23 athlete Josh Smith (Pontypridd Roadents) finished second in his senior men’s 800m heat, recording a time of 1:58.06. There was also a second place for Aharaon Graham-Mulvaney (Cardiff Athletics/Loughborough Student) in the long jump thanks to a leap of 6.31m, Aharaon also set a new PB of 4m 25 in pole vault.

YEOVIL SPRING OPEN, APRIL 19

A number of Welsh athletes made the jaunt across the border for the Yeovil Spring Open.

Among those to enjoy a successful meet was Welsh Athletics National Development Programme athlete Lucy Bickerton (Yeovil/Wells City) who returned to form with a comfortable win in the 1500m steeplechase where she clocked 5:07.75.

South Wales steeplechase Regional Development Programme athletes Will Chalk (Newport Harriers) and Jack Sullivan (Swansea Harriers) finished 4th and 8th in the under-17 men’s 1500m steeplechase, clocking 4.43 and 4.59 respectively. Paige Lily-Williams (Carmarthen Harriers) clocked 6.11 in the under-15 race.

Sophie Piddington (Newport Harriers) won the under-15 women’s 75m hurdles in 13.4 and earned a joint second place in the senior women’s high jump with a best of 1.47m.

Morgan Keen Williams (Carmarthen Harriers) won the men’s under-23 discus with a new PB of 32.17m.

Meanwhile, Ava John (Cardiff Athletics) won the senior women’s discus with a new PB of 33.27m.

There were also successes in the senior women’s hammer. Ffion Palmer (Cardiff Athletics) took the honours with a best of 50.23m in the 4K competition. While in the 3K event, under-17 clubmate Evie Cooper triumphed with 53.15m.

Owen Garret (Yate) who represented GB at last year’s European Under-18 Championships claimed a new PB of 48.54 as he finished second in the under-20 men’s discus.

TEIFI 10 – LAMPETER, APRIL 20

The Teifi 10 is a fast, flat and scenic race taking runners along the River Teifi and through the university town of Lampeter.

This year’s men’s race was won by home club runner Ollie George (Sarn Helen), who broke the tape in 56:40.5. Sion Lewis (London Heathside) was second in 57:02.4 with Jamie Lloyd (Caffi Gruff) third in 58:28.2.

The women’s race was won by Jo Callan (Swansea Harriers) in 1:03:28.2. Second place went to Polly Summers (Sarn Helen) in 1:03:38.4 with Nerys Jones (Trots) third in 1:05:39.4.

BE FIT FOR TODAY TRACK ACADEMY OUTDOOR SERIES 1 – LONDON, APRIL 21

Under-17 Welsh Athletics National Development Programme athlete Aliyah Afolabi ran a new personal best in the second round of women’s 100m heats at Lee Valley.

The Cardiff Archers sprinter clocked 11.80 as she finished third in the race which was won by 2022 European Under-18 100m champion Nia Wedderburn Goodison (Harrow AC) in 11.47.

Opening up her outdoor season, Afolabi shaved 0.08 seconds off her previous best time of 11.88 clocked in Swansea last August – the fastest 100m time run by an under-15 athlete in the UK during 2024.

In the 200m heats, Aharon Graham-Mulvaney (Cardiff Athletics) finished fourth in his heat in a time of 23.06.
