SOUTH WALES THROWS – ABERDARE, AUGUST 15

Some of Wales top throwers took part in the South Wales Throws August meeting in Aberdare on Saturday, thanks to organiser Lee Hayward and his volunteers for running the event.

F44 para thrower Harrison Walsh (Swansea Harriers), who finished fifth at the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, recorded the longest distance of the day in the male and female discus competition with 51.59m.

National Development Programme thrower Williams Richards-Baldwin (Gloucester AC) threw 47.45m while Storm Evans (Carmarthen Harriers) recorded 40.48m.

In the male and female shot put, Richards-Baldwin posted the longest distance with 16.72m. Fellow NDP thrower Grace Hawker (Cardiff Archers) threw 15.03m and Daniel Jacob Roberts (Rhondda AAC) 11.60m.

Richards-Baldwin also headed the field in the male and female hammer with a best of 55.53m. Under-16 athlete Filip Noga posted 54.06m and NDP Amelia Mitchell (Neath Athletics) 49.95m.

The male and female javelin saw Richard Dangerfield (Cardiff Athletics) post 61.17m with Gary Piazzon (Cardiff Athletics) throwing 43.11m and Daniel Jacob Roberts (Rhondda AAC) getting 39.96m. NDP Summer Evans (Carmarthen Harriers) posted the longest female distance with 38.77m.

BE FIT FOR TODAY TRACK ACADEMY OUTDOOR SERIES – DAGENHAM, AUGUST 15

Sam Gordon (Cardiff Athletics) finished third in his first round heat clocking 10.52. In the second round, Gordon finished sixth in 10.53.

Meanwhile, over 400m, Evan Blackman (Corby Athletics) won his heat in 47.64.

SNOWDON SKY RACE – AUGUST 15

The iconic Skyrunning event features a series of races over various distances and terrains in the stunning Eryri National Park.

The Skyrun was won for the second year running by England’s Ed Brewer in 5:19.09 ahead of countryman Sam Mayglothing in 6:09.29. Welshman Tom Scrivens was third in 6:37.05.

The women’s race was won by Bryony Shircore in 7:18.13 ahead of Sanne Vinks, of the Netherlands, in 7:32.42 and England’s Helen Brown in 7:53.59.

The Copper Sky Trail race was won by England’s Max Walker in 3:17.25 with South Africa’s James Miller second in 3:28.04 and Ireland’s Enda Cloake third in 3:30.01.

Lindy Etzensperger, of Switzerland, won the women’s race in 3:58.53 ahead of English competitors Lucy Milling in 4:25.00 and Rhiannon Wooldridge 4:35.49.

Justin Gardner won the Fairy Trail in 1:37.52 ahead of Kevin Butters in 1:39.35 and South Africa’s Luje Miller 1:47.38.

The women’s winner was England’s Ellen McArthur in 1:57.09. Lauren McCann was second in 1:57.33 and Poppy Boyden third in 2:05.13.

CHEPSTOW RUNNING FESTIVAL 5K, 10K AND HALF MARATHON 2026 – AUGUST 15

The Chepstow Running Festival saw races held over three distances – 5K, 10K and half marathon on Saturday.

The men’s 5K was won convincingly by Amos Starkey (University of Birmingham Triathlon Club) in 16:34. Noah Volausek was second in 21:22 with Shaun Noble third in 21:45.

Katie Lloyd was the first female finisher in 22:40 ahead of Sophie Evans in 26:11 and Natalie Whitehead in 26:56.

The men’s 10K was won by Ethan Smith in 36:37 with Nick Rood (Southville Running Club) second in 37:48 and Jonathan English third in 40:30.

The winner of the female race was Laura Anstey in 41.53. Elli Totterdell was second in 45:02 with Joanna Smith third in 46:53.

The men’s half marathon was won by Liam Bradley (Tri Potential) in 1:18.37 with Isaac O’Sullivan second in 1:19.31 and Victor Manuel Mateu Garcia (Southville Running Club) third in 1:23.18.

Amanda Bracks Perrigo (Kings Heath Running Club) won the women’s half marathon in 1:38.46. Mar Vila Garcia was second in 1:46.46 and Hollie Poynter-Freeman third in 1:48.20.

RACE THE TRAIN 2026 – TYWYN, AUGUST 15

The unique Race The Train event celebrated took place on Saturday alongside the world-famous Talyllyn Railway.

The races were held across a variety of distances from 14 miles to 3.5 miles.

The showpiece 14 mile rotary race was won by Jonathan Morris (Wolverhampton and Bilston AC) in 1:25.29. Matthew Speed (Kent AC) was second in 1:28.50 ahead of Owain Capper (Warwick University) in 1:32.24.

The first female finisher was Rae Nicholls (Birchfield Harriers), who crossed the line in 1:51.09. Elizabeth Watters (Birchfield Harriers) was second in 1:52.05 and Jo Lloyd-Davies (Amman Valley Harriers) third in 1:52.43.
