MORTON GAMES – CONTINENTAL TOUR BRONZE – DUBLIN, JULY 11
Competing in a strong international field, Cari Hughes (Cardiff Athletics) finished seventh in the women’s 1500m in 4:07.62 in the Irish capital.
Welsh Athletics Performance Programme athlete Piers Copeland (Pontypridd Roadents) was ninth in the high quality men’s 800m in 1:48.39.
BMC GRAND PRIX – WORLD ATHLETICS CHALLENGER – WATFORD, JULY 12
A high class British Miler’s Club event attracted a large Welsh entry which enjoyed several impressive performances.
Among the many Welsh highlights, was Issy Boffey (Enfield and Haringey) edging ever closer to that elusive sub-two minute 800m goal.
On Saturday, the Commonwealth Games hopeful finished second in the women’s A race, clocking a season’s best 2:00.05, which is inside the B standard for Glasgow.
National Development Programme athlete Millie Gold (Swansea Harriers) continued the purple patch of form she is enjoying as she finished third in the 3000m steeplechase in a new PB and European U-20 standard time of 10:26.96
Emma Powell (Western Tempo/Lamar University) won the 800m D race in a new PB of 2.09.27mins.
NDP athlete Iwan Thomas (Carmarthen Harriers) celebrated a 3,000m steeplechase PB of 9:19.83 finishing fifth in the men’s 3,000m A race. Brychan Price Davies (Swansea Harriers) clocked 9:30.29mins finishing eighth.
Rhiannon Paton (Westbury/Oxford Uni/Yate) won the women’s 1500m D race in a PB of 4:26.80mins. Welsh Champion Darcie Bass (Swansea Harriers) finished sixth in a PB of 4:32.01mins with silver medallist Ceri Griffiths (Newport Harriers) eighth in 4:37.33.
NDP athlete Henry Evans (Cardiff Athletics) enjoyed a 1500m PB of 3:50.92 for third place in the E race.
Welsh steeplechase champion Oliver James (Bournemouth) enjoyed a 1500m PB of 3:48.27mins in the D race.
Poppy Elton (Worcester AC) registered a 1500m PB of 4:27.77mins in the C race. NDP athlete Bryony Boyce (Cardiff AC) clocked 4:31.14mins in same race.
INTER-REGIONAL TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS - CARMARTHEN, JULY 12
West Wales earned a victory on home soil at the Inter-Regional Track and Field Championships in Carmarthen on Saturday.
The overall combined score saw West Wales take the honours with 651.50, ahead of South Wales with 541.50, East Wales with 409 and North Wales 232.
Among the winners for West Wales were sisters Storm and Summer Evans (Carmarthen Harriers) who both claimed a pair of golds.
Summer won the under-17 women’s discus with 30.66m and the javelin with 40.25m.
Meanwhile, sister Storm won the under-20 women’s shot put with 12.67m and the discus with 43.89m.
2025 BLACK DIAMOND YR WYDDFA SNOWDON 24 XTERRA SNOWDONIA TRAIL ERYRI – LLANBERIS JULY 12 AND 13
This year’s event hosted the XTERRA Trail Run World Championships, which were held in Europe for the first time.
The annual XTERRA Snowdonia event hosts two races:
- Black Diamond Yr Wyddfa | Snowdon 24 - runners ascend and descend Wales’ highest mountain, Yr Wyddfa, as many times as possible.
RESULTS - XTERRA Snowdonia Trail Marathon Eryri - stunning Trail Marathon, Ultra Marathon, Half Marathon and 10k, starting and finishing in Wales' outdoor capital, Llanberis.

The Black Diamond Yr Wyddfa saw Arthur Ehlinger winning the Senior Men's age group with a time of 4:03:43, the Mens 50+ category went to Daniel Jenkins running a 4:43:39, Emma Frost claimed the top spot in the Women's Senior completing two laps in 5:48:28 and Daryl Sampson was first to cross the line in 40+ age group in 6:26:21.
During the XTERRA Snowdonia Trail Marathon Eryri, Andrea Rowlands (Eryri Harriers) competed in the Ultra Marathon coming second in the female FV50 race and 10th overall with a time of 7:28:11 Llyr Williams finished second overall with a time of 6:42:34.
Nesta Mccluskey took part in the marathon and managed to finish 54th overall with a time of 5:44:00
In the 10k Margot Saher (Eryri Harriers) finished 11th overall with a time of 1:00:39 and in the mens group Llyr Apgeraint-roberts (NWRRC (North Wales Road Runners) finished 3rd overall in 54:53.
ENGLISH SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS – BIRMINGHAM, JULY 12
A number of Welsh athletes shone at the English Schools Championships in Birmingham.
Among them was outstanding young heptathlete Eden Robinson (Somerset) who won the senior girls 100m hurdles in 14.02.
Elsewhere, NDP athlete Lucy Bickerton was fourth in the senior girls 1500m steeplechase in a PB of 5:02.85. Meanwhile in half marathon Claire Donnelly placed 43rd overall in 2:58:53.
STRATFORD SPEED GP – NEWHAM, JULY 13
Wales’ fastest man Jeremiah Azu (Cardiff Athletics) warmed up for next weekend’s Diamond League meeting in London by running a season’s best time in the capital.
The World 60m indoor champion clocked 10.08 to finish second to Romell Glave in his first round heat.
Clubmate Sam Gordon registered a best of 10.53 finishing second in his first round heat. Another Cardiff man, Alex Azu was just outside his own PB as he finished fourth in the first round in 10.48.
William Hawker (Swansea Harriers) celebrated a new PB of 10.85 finishing fourth in his first round race.
NDP Under-20 sprinter Nell Desir (Cardiff Archers) finished fourth in her first round 100m heat in 11.74.
Issie Tustin (Cardiff Athletics) was seventh in her first round heat in 12.11, a time which she improved on in the second round as she clocked 11.95 finishing second.
In the 400m, Reece Middleton (Coventry Godiva Harriers) won his heat in 47.78.
AMMANFORD 10K – JULY 13
Commonwealth Games distance star Dewi Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) continued to sharpen up for an autumn marathon by winning comfortably in his home county of Carmarthenshire.
The Wales and Great Britain international clocked 30:37 to claim the win. Second was club-mate Joshua Morgan in 34:29 ahead of Mark Harrison (Peak Performance Wales – Clwb Run Wales) in 35:13.
The first female finisher was another Swansea Harrier – Sioned Howells in 38:25 ahead of Jessica Wesley (Tri Hard Harriers) in 42:49. Luticia Thomas (Swansea Harriers) was third in 43:04.
MIC MORRIS TORFAEN 10K – BLAENAVON, JULY 13
Reputed to be a super-fast race, the Mic Morris Torfaen 10K starts in Blaenavon before finishing in Pontypool Park.
This year’s men’s race winner was Eric Apperly (Builth and District Running Club) who completed the course in 31:40 ahead of Mark Jennings (Micky Morris Racing Team) in 31:49. Andrew Jones was third in 33:28.
The women’s race was won by Stephanie Davies (Pontypridd Roadents AC) in 39:28. Second place went to Natalie Burchell (Lliswerry) in 39:41. Nancy Dineen was third in 40:46.
WELSH JUNIOR MOUNTAIN RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025 - CANOLFAN Y FRON, JULY 13
The event kicked of with the U15's tackling a distance/height of 4.65km/165m, the boys race was won by Finley Potter who was joined on the podium by Jacob Price in second and Gethin Thomas in third while the girls race witnessed Saffi Reid to be first across the finish line however in second place was Grace Hughes who also finished first among Welsh athletes in the race.
Mid-way point of the event showcased the U17's races in the mens race Chris Benson first across the finish line however just behind him Alfie Bartley-Rose in second claim first as the Welsh Championships resulting in Noa Dafydd claiming second and Joseph Roberts third in Welsh Champs. The girls U17 race resulted in Nansi Griffiths taking first followed home by Tamsin Seguin in second and Evie Hughes in third.
The last race of the day played host to the U20's across 6.90km spanning height of 303m, Matt Benson claim first place followed by Finley Bruce in second and Iwan Thomas in third. In the Women's U20 Madison Hughes was first to cross the line trailed by runner up Anwrn Hockley in second.
