MORTON GAMES – DUBLIN, JULY 10
Commonwealth Games Team Wales representative Cari Hughes (Menai Track and Field) was in action in Ireland on Friday.
Hughes, who will contest the 3,000m steeplechase in Glasgow, finished 11th over 1500m in a season’s best 4:11.65.
Earlier in the week, Hughes was the highest placed British runner in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Cork City Games, clocking 8:51.34 in fourth place.
NATIONAL ATHLETICS LEAGUE PREMIERSHIP ROUND TWO – WOODFORD GREEN, JULY 11
Swansea Harriers produced number of fine individual performances in their latest NAL Premiership fixture, while Commonwealth Games athlete Tom Walley was in winning form for Thames Valley Harriers.
The stand out Swansea athlete in the fixture hosted at Woodford Green, was Welsh Athletics Transition Programme sprinter Hannah Brier, who won the women’s 400m in a brilliant new PB.
Wales’ fastest woman over 100m and 200m secured full points for her club as she led the field home in 52.23.
Meanwhile, Glasgow-bound pole-vaulter Walley was helping his club Thames Valley Harriers win the overall match by earning maximum points with a best of 5.22m.
Other Welsh athletes scoring for league leaders Thames Valley Harriers included National Development Programme thrower Amelia Fettis who finished second in the hammer with 58.70m.
Transition Programme jumper Jessica Lee, was third in the long jump with 5.87m and ninth in the high jump with 1.57m.
Meanwhile, Carys Aboagye, fresh from her silver medal at the Welsh Senior Championships, placed fourth for TVH in the shot put with 13.58m.
Also competing in the shot put was National Development Programme multi-eventer Matilda Quick (Swansea Harriers), who the previous day was selected to represent Great Britain in the heptathlon at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Eugene later this summer.
Quick finished fifth in the shot put with 12.80m and scored further points in the high jump where she leapt to 1.67m.
Although Swansea placed eighth overall in the match, there were a number of other excellent individual performances from the Welsh club’s athletes.
They included outstanding Transition Programme thrower Michael Jenkins winning the discus with 57.52m – almost six-and-a-half metres ahead of his nearest rival.
In a thrillingly close men’s 100m, which saw the top four athletes separated by just 400ths of a second, Eniola Adedotun edged the win in 10.92.
NDP thrower Lucy Harris was fifth in the discus with 46.65m, while fellow NDP athlete Evie Cooper placed seventh in the hammer with 50.70m.
NATIONAL ATHLETICS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP WEST ROUND TWO – BOURNEMOUTH, JULY 11
Cardiff Athletics enjoyed a sunny day at the seaside as they finished third in their Championship West fixture on the south coast.
There was a Cardiff one-two in the women’s high jump where Transition Programme athlete Hannah Lake won with a height of 1.75m.
Fellow TP athlete and 2022 Commonwealth Games competitor Lauren Evans was second with a best of 1.61m.
It was a far from quiet day by the sea for Evans, who also competed in the 100m hurdles, shot put, javelin and 4x400m relay. Evans won the hurdles second string race in 14.75, finished third in the shot put with 10.82m, third in the javelin with 32.14m and second in the mixed 4x400m relay alongside Callum Webb, Julia Teka, and Simeon Santima.
Katie Chapman was also extensively employed throughout the day winning the javelin with 35.56m, finishing second in the 100m hurdles in 14.03, third in the 400m hurdles in 1:13.13, fourth in the 400m in 1:06.76 and second in the long jump with 5.43m, where clubmate and Gold Coast Commonwealth Games athlete Rebecca Chapman won with 5.60m.
Toks Akanbi-Mortimer was another consistent points scorer for Cardiff, placing second in the men’s discus with 38.01m, third in the long jump with 6.44m, third in the shot put with 12.09m and fifth in the 400m in 58.11.
Meanwhile, Sadie Graham-Mulvaney was third in the women’s triple jump with 10.83m and fourth in both the 100m in 13.19 and the 200m in 27.10.
Graham-Mulvaney also helped Cardiff to victory in the women’s 4x100m in 50.25 alongside Sophia Goulding, Hannah Tapley and Francesca Morgan.
The men’s 110m hurdles was a successful event for Cardiff with Tobias Clayden winning in 15.86 and John Bennett second in 16.35.
Amongst the other winners for the capital city club was Lily Gregson, who triumphed in the discus with 40.37m.
Cardiff ended on 444 points in third place with Yeovil Olympiads AC taking the match win with 548 ahead of hosts Bournemouth on 475.
BRITISH MILERS CLUB WATFORD GRAND PRIX – JULY 11
Team Wales Commonwealth Games athlete Ava Lloyd (Wigan and District Harriers and Athletics Club) was one of a number of Welsh Athletics Performance Programme athletes who travelled to Watford for the BMC Grand Prix.
Transition Programme runner Lloyd, who will be contesting the mile in Glasgow, finished third in the women’s 800m A race in a new personal best of 2:01.32. The race was won by double Olympian Jemma Reekie in 1:58.40.
The B race saw Loughborough International representative and English Champs 800m winner Bronwen Reed (Trafford/Manchester University) finish third in 2:06.34.
In the men’s 1500m races, Transition Programme athlete Jack Organ (Brecon AC) was eighth in a closely contested men’s 800m B race in 1:49.64.
NDP athlete Thomas Loynes (Neath Harriers) was seventh in the Men’s 800m E race, clocking 1:51.17, while fellow NDP Lucas Salvage (Newport Harriers) was sixth in the F race in 1:53.97.
NDP athlete Henry Evans (Cardiff Athletics) was fifth in the men’s 1500m E race in a personal best of 3:50.29. In the G race, Loughborough International representative Oliver James (Bournemouth AC) was fifth in 3:54.26.
Commonwealth Youth Games representative Joe Rees Gara (Wigan and District Harriers and AC) was second in the men’s 1500m F race in 3:52.05 as he continues his return to racing.
Loughborough International representative Emma Powell (Western Tempo) was ninth in the 1500m B race clocking 4:28.61.
In the women’s 1500m C race, Darcie Bass (Swansea Harriers) was sixth in a new PB of 4:27.25. Lilly Oakenfull (Newport Harriers) was eighth, also in a PB of 4:29.38.
Transition Programme athlete Libby Hale (Swansea Harriers) continues her return finishing sixth in the 1500m D race in a season’s best 4:32.91.
Transition Programme athlete Dafydd Jones (Swansea Harriers) committed well before fading in the last 800m to finish 10th in the men’s 3,000m A race, crossing the line in a new PB of 8:03.55. Another athlete who represented Wales at the Loughborough International, Dion Griffith (Meirionnydd), was 10th in the 3000m C race in 8:35.20.
Brychan Price Davies (Swansea Harriers) clocked a new PB of 9:21.53 as he placed seventh in the 3,000m steeplechase A race.
WELSH ATHLETICS JUNIOR MOUNTAIN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026 – CANOLFAN Y FRON, UPPER LLANDDWROG – JULY 12
The event also incorporated the British and Irish Junior Mountain Running Championship trial.
The Under-16, Under-18 and Under-20 races were run over a 6.3km course. The overall race was won by Lucas Howard Machado (Cardiff Archers), who also claimed the Under-18 boys title ahead of Ryan Delaney (Deeside AAC), Alfie Rose (Deeside AAC) and Jai Chauhan (Eryri Harriers).
The Under-20 men’s title was won by Oberon Kearney (Warriors Pentathlon and AC), while Osian Tuloch (Deeside AC) won the Under-16 boys title ahead of Alex Ladd (Carmarthen Harriers AC).
Amelia Williams won the Under-18 women’s title ahead of Abbey Drake (Menai Track and Field), while the Under-16 girls honours went to Manon Fflur Phillips (Carmarthen Harriers) ahead Saffi Reid (Hereford and County AC) and Amber Chauhan (Eryri Harriers).
The Under-14 boys race, which took on a 4.45km course, was won by Jacob Price (Menai Track and Field) ahead of Riley Nealon Cardiff Athletics).
The first under-14 girls finisher was Poppy Collins (Menai Track and Field), who finished ahead of Gwen Hayes (Deeside AAC), Ella Hayes (Deeside AAC) and Orlaith Mullin (Eryri Harriers).
BRITISH SHORT COURSE MOUNTAIN RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIPS – PEN Y FAN, JULY 11
The top male Welsh finisher in the Brecon Beacons was Tom Wood (Eryri Harriers), who claimed bronze in 33:13 behind overall winner Finlay Grant (Dark Peak Fell Runners), who led the field home in 31:46.
Sam Gunning (Cybi Striders) finished eighth overall and claimed the male Under-23 silver medal in 36:04.
In the women’s race, Beth Rawlinson (Mercia Fell Runners) was third overall in 41:07, which also brough her Under-23 gold. Bethan Logan (Mynydd Du) was fourth overall in 44:17, while Rhian Probert (Mynydd Du) was fifth overall in 46:22.
ESAA ENGLISH SCHOOLS TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS – BIRMINGHAM, JULY 10 AND 11
Ewan Sparey (Bristol and West AC) won the boys intermediate 800m at the English Schools Championships which were held at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium. National Development Programme athlete Sam Hembry (Bromsgrove and Redditch) was fourth in the senior boys 800m.
CWMANN 5 2026 – LAMPETER, JULY 10
The Cwmann 5, organised by Sarn Helen running and cycling club, took place on Friday evening. No results were available at the time of writing but should appear at the link below in due course.
SOUTH AND EAST WALES JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT OPEN 4 – ABERDARE, JULY 11
Almost 300 young athletes from across the South and East Wales region registered for this Junior Development Open.
Aberdare Valley AAC took the overall team honours ahead of Cardiff Archers and Pontyclun AC.
BUTTERFLY RUN – PARC TAF BARGOED, JULY 11
This was another of Phoenix Running South Wales’ timed events where participants choose how far to go - from 5km to 10k, half to marathon to ultra.
Runners and walkers completed as many, or as few, laps as they liked of a 5.3km, 3.28 mile, out and back, course through Parc Taf Bargoed, a Green Flag park offering visitors spectacular views shaped by the area's industrial past and recent redevelopment.
The minimum distance was 3.28 miles or as far as participants could go within the seven hour limit.
STRATFORD SPEED GP – NEWHAM, JULY 12
Team Wales captain Olivia Breen (City of Portsmouth) warmed up for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games by clocking 13.12 in her 100m first round heat.
In the second round, the T38 sprinter who won gold at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games four years ago, recorded 13.16
NDP sprinter and GB international Nell Desir (Cardiff Archers) finished seventh in her women’s 100m heat, clocking 11.51. Fellow NDP athlete Jessica Mantle (Cardiff Athletics) was eighth in 11.57. Mantle later posted a time of 11.51 in her second round heat
Great Britain 400m runner Louisa Stoney (Belgrave Harriers) showed her versatility across the sprints as she clocked 11.45 to finish second in her first round heat.
The men’s 100m saw Sam Gordon (Cardiff Athletics) run a wind-assisted 10.31 as he finished fourth in his first round 100m heat. Gordon clocked the same time finishing third in the second round, this time with a legal wind.
Transition Programme sprinter Lewis Stephens (Cardiff Athletics) finished second in his first round heat in 10.62 and later ran a marginally wind-assisted 10.58 to finish third in his second round heat.
William Hawker (Swansea Harriers) ran 10.80 to finish second in his second round heat. Fellow Swansea Harrier, Under-18 athlete Jeremy Young, clocked 11.17 to finish second in his heat
In the women’s 400m hurdles, NDP sprinter Sophie Lisk (Cardiff Archers) finished fourth in her heat in 59.83.
BRITISH WHEELCHAIR ASSOCIATION GRAND PRIX – COVENTRY, JULY 12
Two of Wales’ top wheelchair racers travelled to Coventry for the BWA Grand Prix on Sunday.
The full results were not complete at the time of writing, but among the Welsh successes were National Development Programme wheelchair racer Owain Terrell finishing third in the men’s 1500m final in 4:16.28. Terrell also clocked 2:12.58 in the men’s 800m heats.
While Imogen Ashwell Rice (Newport Harriers) enjoyed a successful day, claiming a new personal best of 3:27.63 in the women’s 800m, finished second in her women’s 200m heat in 52.59 and fourth in her women’s 100m heat in 27.37.
UK YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE UPPER – NORTHERN PREMIER WEST – ELMSMERE PORT, JULY 12
Annabelle Jones (Wrexham Athletics) new hammer pb today at Ellesmere Port, Upper YDL fixture with a throw of 37.09m.
Spencer Jones (Wrexham Athletics) new javelin pb at Charnwood AAC Open, with a throw of 42.63m.

UK YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE UPPER – MIDLANDS PREMIER SOUTH WEST – GLOUCESTER, JULY 12

AMMANFORD 10K – JULY 12
Run in hot but breezy conditions, this year’s Ammanford 10K was won by Michael Roderick (Tri Hard Harriers) in 34:46.
Second place went to Mark Harrison (Peak Performance Wales), who crossed the line in 35:26, ahead of Chris Tones (Run4All Neath) in 35:48.
The women’s winner was Naomi Sutton (Run4All Neath) who completed the course in 36:52. Jo Lloyd-Davies (Amman Valley Harriers) followed her home in 41:15, with Layla Omar-Davies (Sarn Helen) third in 41:51.
CHIRK 10K – JULY 12
The Chirk 10k brings together an active community of people taking part in sporting events. The participants vary of all ages and all abilities of the runner.
Winner of the men’s race was Deri McCluskey, who negotiated the route in 32:50. Pablo Burns-Roa was second in 34:23 and Eric Apperley third in 35:00.
In the women’s race, Nesta McCluskey (Maldwyn Harriers) took the honours in 45:53, finishing comfortably ahead of Abigail Glover-Davies in 48:13 and Molly Bailey in 48:55.
MIC MORRIS TORFAEN 10K – BLAENAVON, JULY 12
Publicised as “the fastest 10K on the planet, the race takes place on a fast, downhill, closed road course which starts in Blaenavon and finishes in Pontypool Park.
This year’s men’s race was won by Matthew Rees (Swansea Harriers) in 31:12 ahead of Martin Thomas (Parc Bryn Bach) in 33:01 and Andrew Jones in 33:03.
The women’s race was won by Emma Wookey (Lliswerry Runners) in 36:21. Clubmate Antoinette Rose was second in 37:25 and Kani Hinshelwood (Parc Bryn Bach) third in 38:22.
PROSECCO RUN 2026 – BARRY, JULY 12
Phoenix Running South Wales held it’s Prosecco Run on Sunday at the Barry Sidings Country Park.
Once again participants had a choice of distances - from 5km to 10k, half to marathon to ultra, competing as many, or as few, laps of a 5.3km, 3.28 mile, out and back, course along the Taff Trail through the park.
