MITING CATALUNYA – WORLD ATHLETICS INDOOR TOUR CHALLENGER – SABADELL, JANUARY 10
Welsh Athletics Transition Programme athlete Justin Davies opened up his indoor season by setting a new Welsh Indoor Under-23 800m record in a high class race in Spain.
The Team Bath athlete, who made huge strides last season, taking more than two seconds off his personal best, clocked 1:46.94 to go second on the Welsh all -time indoor list. The race was won by Spain’s Elvin Josue Canales Escoto, in 1:45.83, ahead of Uganda’s Tom Dadriga.
The run was ideal preparation for Davies, who is among the entries for next weekend’s Welsh Senior, Under-17 and Para Indoor Championships in Cardiff.

WEST WALES INDOOR ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS – SWANSEA, JANUARY 11
National Development Programme athlete Matilda Quick (Swansea Harriers) was one of the stand-out performers at the West Wales Indoor Athletics Championships.
The talented multi-eventer won the senior women’s long jump with a best of 5.27m and the women’s 17 and over high jump with 1.63m.
Fellow Swansea Harrier Evan Cole won the men’s high jump event with a best of 1.83m.
Another Swansea Harrier to shine in the jump events was Katriel Udoh who won the under-15 girls long jump with 4.60m and finished second in the Under-15 girls high jump, where she was beaten by Isobel Dunkeld (Carmarthen Harriers), who was an impressive winner with a height of 1.60m.

NORTH WALES INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS – DEESIDE, JANUARY 11
National Development Programme athlete Aidan Angilletta (Deeside AAC) enjoyed an outstanding championship in Deeside.
Angilletta won the under-17 men’s high jump with a best of 1.70m, before going on to claim the under-17 men’s long jump title with a distance of 5.96m.
The multi-eventer then went on to complete the jumps hat-trick by taking gold in the under-17 men’s triple jump with a best of 11.28m.
Fellow NDP athlete and multi-eventer Lucca Tardivel (Deeside AAC) also enjoyed a fine championship.
Tardivel earned wins in his Under-17 men’s 60m heat, clocking a new personal best of 7.41, and the final where he was victorious in a time of 7.45, ahead of Tomos Rigby (Menai Track and Field), who clocked 7.64, and Toby Lemon (Deeside AC), who celebrated a PB of 7.65. Tardivel also claimed silver in the Under-17 long jump behind Angilletta.
Connor Dean (Colwyn Bay AC) enjoyed an impressive win in the men’s under-20 60m clocking 7.19 ahead of Dylan Byram (Menai Track and Field) in 7.48 and Lewis Harding (Deeside AC) in 7.60.

LOUGHBOROUGH INDOOR OPEN – JANUARY 11 AND 12
Transition programme athlete Hannah Lake won the high jump pool A final at the Loughborough Indoor Open on Sunday.
The Cardiff Athletics jumper took the win with a best height of 1.73m, ahead of Bernie Coulson (Birchfield Harriers) who registered a best of 1.68m.
The men’s pool B high jump final saw Samuel Davies (Swansea Harriers) celebrate a new personal best of 2.10m as he finished third.
Tom Walley (Wrexham AC) finished second in pool B of men’s pole vault final, clearing a height of 4.85m.
Ellie Rose Isaac (Cardiff Archers) finished second in her 60m hurdles final, clocking 9.25.
The women’s long jump C final saw National Development programme athlete Olivia Scrimshaw (Deeside AAC) finish 5th with a best of 5.84. Transition Programme Athlete Jessica Lee (Carmarthen Harriers) was sixth with 5.80m.
Lauren Wall (Worcester Athletics Club) finished fifth in the high jump pool C final with a best of 1.41m.

CARDIFF MET NON THOMAS EDURANCE GRAND PRIX AND BRITISH MILERS CLUB (BMC) RACES – JANUARY 12
More than 300 athletes gathered at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff for the Non Thomas Endurance Grand Prix and a full programme of BMC races, which saw a number of records fall.
One of the highlights of the day was a new all comers and meeting record by double Commonwealth Games sprinter Hannah Brier (Swansea Harriers).
Running in the 300m, Brier clocked a blistering 38.19, which obliterated her own meeting record of 38.74 set last January.
Second place went to Stephanie Brooks (Cardiff Met) with a new PB of 39.59, while rising young sprint star and National Development Programme athlete Darcy Coslett (Llanelli AAC) was third in 39.96.
The men’s long jump saw Toks Akanbi-Mortimer (Cardiff Met) claim victory with his first jump of the competition – 6.76m. Two NDP athletes finished second and third. Iolo Grant (Cardiff Archers) jumped 6.68m, while club-mate Luca Phillips reached 6.55m.
A new PB of 5.92m saw Amy Hughes (Cardiff Archers) take the win in the women’s long jump ahead of Commonwealth Games athlete Rebecca Chapman (Cardiff Athletics) who jumped 5.83m.
There was a total of nine 800m BMC races and it was National Development Programme Athlete Jack Organ (Brecon AC) who registered the fastest time of the 44 athletes competing – 1:52.26. Another NDP athlete, Lucas Salvage (Newport Harriers) won his race in 1:57.25.
The fastest female on the day in the BMC 800m races was Shakira King (Wreake and Soar Valley), who claimed a new meeting record of 2:04.10.
Meanwhile, under-23 athlete Jessica Hyland (Carmarthen Harriers) won her heat in a new PB of 2:18.76.
The BMC 1500m saw five races, where the highest Welsh finisher overall was James Heneghan (Pontypridd Roadents) who clocked the second fastest time of 3:45.47.
Other notable Welsh male performances saw Luke Hamley (Cardiff Met) finish tenth fastest overall in a new PB of 3:53.67, Josh Smith (Pontypridd Roadents) claim a PB of 3:56.85 and NDP athlete Thomas Loynes (Neath Harriers) claim a PB of 4:00.80.
In the women’s 1500m races, Bryony Boyce (Cardiff Athletics) was the fastest under-17 athlete with 4:32.61, while fellow under-17 Rebeca Davies (Cardiff Athletics) clocked a PB of 4:37.54.
In the two BMC 3,000m races, the fastest Welsh finisher was under-20 athlete Cian Harold (Pontypridd Roadents) who posted 9:09.54.
The fastest female finisher was outstanding rising middle distance star Innes Fitzgerald (Exeter Harriers), who clocked 8:48.30 – breaking Zola Budd’s British indoor Under-20 record of 8:56.13. The fastest Welsh female was Lauren Cooper (Western Tempo) with 9:47.22.
NDP athletes and Swansea Harriers team-mates Millie Gold and Sioned John clocked times of 10.06.04 and 10:12.87 respectively.
In the women’s 400m, Eleanor McIntosh (Bristol and West) set a new meeting record of 55.48 to eclipse the previous best of 55.95 set by Nicole Kendall in 2016.

In a high quality international field, Beth Kidger (Brighton Phoenix) finished 39th in 32:43, while Jenny Nesbitt (Pontypridd Roadents) was 42nd in 32:46.
