Run with the Wind 2, 10 June 

The second Run with the Wind and Field Events took place on Saturday at the Cardiff International Sports Campus.  

Sophie Lisk (Cardiff Athletics) and Joe Berry (Newport Harriers) secured the Commonwealth Youth Games nomination standard.  

Lisk ran 13.73 in the U18 women’s hurdles breaking the Welsh U18 record as well as securing the Commonwealth Youth Games standard. Berry secured nomination standard in the 100m running 10.70. 

There were plenty of new personal best  performances, in the 100m Tomi Roberts Jones (DSWPA) and Amirah Peckham (DSWPA) both ran new PB's, whilst in the throws Mia LLoyd (Carmarthen Harriers) threw a personal best distance of 14.17m in the discus.

Mountain and Trail Running Championships

Two Welsh Athletes were in action for Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Austria.

In the Short Trail race on Thursday Kris Jones (Swansea) produced a great performance on the global stage finishing eighth in 4:30:37. With a combined time of 13:18:52, the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team took the gold medal beating silver medallists Italy by over eight minutes.

In the Long Trail race on Friday Harry Jones (Martin Cox, Mynydd Du) put in a strong performance on a tough day in the Austrian mountains and was the second GB & NI athlete across the finish line with a time of 11:52:42.

Welsh Castles Relay, 10 & 11 June 

The 2023 Welsh Castles Relay took place over the weekend, with hundreds of runners taking part in the 2 day, 20 stage race which covered 202 miles from Caernarfon to Cardiff.  

In the Open category, Kent took first place with a time of 19:46:34 hours. They were followed home by Highgate Harriers in second finishing in 20:19:24. And just behind in third was Pontypridd Roadents in a time of 20:20:39. 

It was Les Croupiers that took victory in the Ladies' category with a time of 24:36:31, Sale Harriers were next to complete the 20 stages with a time of 25:21:29, and Chorlton finished third with 25:30:07. 

Les Croupiers also took victory in the Vets category, completing the 20-stage race in 22:58:15. Pontypridd Rodents finished second in 23:38:06 and Ealing Eagles completed the top three in 24:01:47.

Swansea Half Marathon, 11 June 

There was a new course record set in the men’s race with Omar Ahmed (Birchfield Harriers) breaking the previous record, also set by himself in a winning time of 1:02:53. Seyd Taha Ghafari (Highgate) took second in 1:06:16 and Alexander Bampton (Highgate Harriers) completed the top three finishing in 1:06:57. 

It was a very competitive women’s field, with Lucy Redi (Tonbridge AC) finishing in first with an impressive time of 1:14:22. Clara Evans (Pontypridd Roadents) finished in second with a time of 1:16:01 and Charlottee Dannatt (Camberley & District AC) completed the podium finishing in 1:16:22.

Athletica Geneve, 10 June 

Joe Brier (Swansea Harriers) set a new personal best in Geneva running 45.54 seconds over 400m. 

Seren Bundy-Davies (Trafford) finished third in the women’s 400m running 53.16 seconds.

Meeting EAP d’Annecy, 1 June 

Joe Brier (Swansea Harriers) was also in action for Great Britain this weekend in Annecy France. Brier and the GB team finished second in the men’s 4x400m relay with a time of 3:02:43.  

Seren Bundy-Davies (Trafford) was victorious in the women’s 4x400m relay, with Great Britain claiming victory with a time of 3:26:70.

BMC Grand Prix, World Athletics Challenger, 10 June 

Several Welsh athletes were in action in the BMC Grand Prix in Loughborough on Saturday.  

In the women’s 800m A Rhiannon Hawker (Cardiff Athletics) set a new personal best of 2:04:78 to finish fourth.  

Piers Copeland (Pontypridd Roadents) set a season best in the men’s 800m A with a time of 1:47:91 to finish fifth.  

James Heneghan (Pontypridd Roadents) finished second in the men’s 1500m A with a new personal best time of 3:41:50.
