NORTH WALES INDOOR REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026 – DEESIDE, JANUARY 10

National Development Programme athlete Aidan Angilletta (Deeside AAC) was one of the many stand-out performers in Bangor.

The talented multi-eventer won the men’s under-17 long jump with a best of 6.13m, the high jump with a best of 1.80m and the 60m hurdles by more than three seconds with a winning time of 8.50.

There were a number of other similar fine all round performances, including from Sienna Hughes (Colwyn Bay AC) who also won three events – the under-13 long jump with 3.92m, the high jump with 1.05m and the 60m in 8.68.

Lasitha Ekanayake (Deeside AC) excelled in the men’s under-17 60m where he broke the tape in 7.22. Meanwhile, the under-20 men’s 60m saw Connor Rhys Fallorina Dean (Colwyn Bay AC) win in 7.19.

In the masters age groups, Neil Davies (Wrexham AC) won the men’s 55-75 high jump with 1.40m, the long jump with 4.41m and the 60m in 8.41.

NORTH WALES CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS – BANGOR, JANUARY 10

Tom Wood (Eryri Harriers) and Martha Owen (Deeside AC) won the men’s and women’s senior titles in Bangor.

Owen claimed the women’s race in 22:45 ahead of Gemma Moore (Eryri Harriers) in 22:56 with Ruth Calcraft (Run Free for All) third in 23:05.

In the senior women’s team event Eryri Harriers claimed gold and silver ahead of Buckley RC.

Host club Eryri also excelled in the senior men’s race with Wood taking the individual crown in 29:59 ahead of Luke Burgess (Bristol and West AC) in 30:17 and Daniel Kashi (Meirionnydd RC) in 30:36.

The senior men’s team title was won by Meirionnydd RC ahead of Eryri Harriers.

There were also a number of age group categories from under-11 upwards including under-17 where Zac Campbell (Deeside AC) won the men’s title in 20:52 and Welsh Athletics National Development Programme athlete Heather Watson (Deeside AC) claimed the women’s gold in 17:27.

LOUGHBOROUGH INDOOR OPEN – JANUARY 10 AND 11

Under-20 athlete Elin Roberts (Winchester AC) equalled her 60m hurdles PB of 8:86 as she finished second in her heat.

In the 60m hurdles E final, Grace Morgan (Cardiff Archers) was second in a season’s best 8.75. Morgan also earned a second place in the 60m, where she ran 7.86 in her heat.

Commonwealth Games long jumper Rebecca Chapman (Cardiff Athletics) ran 7.89 to finish second in her heat and 7.93 to finish sixth in the C Final

The women’s 60m also saw Eli Jones (Menai Track and Field) finish second in her heat in 7.79. In the B Final she was third in 7.77. Seren Redfern (Sale Harriers) won her 60m heat in 8.45.

National Development Programme multi-eventer Olivia Scrimshaw (Deeside AAC) finished third in Pool B of the women’s long jump final with a distance of 5.65m.

There was also a third place in the men’s Pool B pole vault final for Aharon Graham-Mulvaney (Cardiff Athletics), reaching a height of 3.96m.

In the men’s Pool B Triple Jump final, NDP athlete Abdul Afolabi (Cardiff Archers) celebrated a victory and a new PB of 14.22m.

VALENCIA 10K – JANUARY 11

Olympian Clara Evans-Graham (Pontypridd Roadents) broke the Welsh 10k record with a brilliant run in Spain on Sunday morning.

The Welsh Athletics Performance Programme athlete, who represented Great Britain in the marathon at the Paris Olympics, finished 17th in a high quality international field clocking 31:18.

Evans-Graham’s time surpasses the national record of 31:28 set by Charlotte Arter (Cardiff Athletics back in 2022.

The first British finisher was Scotland’s Eilish McColgan, who set a new European record of 30:08.

2025/26 WELSH ATHLETICS JUNIOR INDOOR OPEN 2 – CARDIFF, JANUARY 11

Almost 500 young athletes entered the Welsh Athletics Junior Open 2 at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff on Sunday.

The large entry produced a number of excellent performances across the packed timetable of events.

Among them was National Development Programme athlete Tiana Odugbesan (Cardiff Archers), who ran a new PB of 8.87 in the under-17 women 60m hurdles. Odugbesan also won the under-17 women’s shot put with a best of 11.79m.

The under-17 men’s 60m hurdles saw NDP sprinters Macsen Martins Hughes (Cardiff Archers) and Cobie Phillips (Cardiff Archers) both claim new PBs in 8.49 and 8.71 respectively. Phillips also won the pole vault with a best of 3.70m.

Martins Hughes also ran a PB in the under-17 men’s 60m where he crossed the line in 7.40 and for good measure won the men’s under-17 long jump with 6.29m.

Fellow NDP athlete Joshua Thomas (Cardiff Archers) ran a 60m PB in the men’s under-17 races with 7.47.

But the fastest time of the day in the men’s under-17 60m went to NDP sprinter Kaleem Islam (Cardiff Athletics), who scorched to a new PB of 7.10.

The girls under-15 60m attracted the biggest entry of the day, where Katriel Udoh (Swansea Harriers) posted the fasted time with 7.86 ahead of Olympia Murray (Cardiff Archers), who ran a PB of 7.93.

The under-15 boys 60m saw Jacob Barnes (Cardiff Athletics) run 7.35, with Dylan Holmes (Cardiff Archers) posting a PB of 7.63, as did Dylan Stuart Snare (Aberdare Valley AC) with 7.68.
