NATIONAL ATHLETICS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP WEST ROUND ONE – SWANSEA, JUNE 1
Teams from Cardiff Athletics, Basingstoke and Mid Hants AC, Yate and District, Yeovil Olympiads and Southampton AC travelled west as Swansea Harriers hosted the first fixture of the new season.
And it was the home club who came out victorious on the day, taking the honours comfortably with 626.5 points ahead of Basingstoke with 480.5 and Cardiff in third with 475.
Olympian Joe Brier’s 400m win was one of the standout performances for the hosts as he achieved a season’s best of 46.16s.
Moments later, Hanna Ulvede made it a one-lap double for Swansea, taking more than a second off her lifetime best to come home in 57.94.
In the 400m hurdles, national development programme athlete Osian Parry (Swansea Harriers) claimed a PB as he finished third in 56.95
Cardiff were strong in the sprints with Sam Gordon winning the men’s 100m in 10.53 ahead of clubmate Alex Azu in 10.64.
The capital city club repeated the feat in the women’s 100m with Jessica Mantle winning in 12.28 ahead of Katie Chapman in 12.57.
Cardiff also claimed first and third in the 100m hurdles where transition programme athletes Lauren Evans and Grace Morgan clocked 13.83 and 14.26 respectively. Swansea’s Lauryn Davey and Sophie Lisk registered 14.46 and 14.49.
In the high jump, national development programme athlete Matilda Quick (Swansea Harriers) produced an excellent jump of 1.60m, finishing third behind Chapman and Lauren Evans.

BUDAPEST OPEN – JUNE 1 AND 2
Transition programme athlete Hannah Tapley (Cardiff Athletics) finished second in the high jump in Hungary with a best height of 1.74m.

NORTH WEST COMBINED EVENTS - DEESIDE, JUNE 1 AND 2
The North West Combined Events Championship (NWCE) was held at Deeside Stadium over the weekend.
Incorporating the county championships for the North West of England and North Wales, NWCE is an Open championship that aims to show-off the facilities at Deeside and offer a development opportunity to athletes, coaches and officials.
The event also included the Masters National Combined Events Championships – an opportunity for U15, U17, U20, Seniors and Masters athletes to compete side-by-side.
Among the stand out performances by Welsh athletes was the gold won by Tiana Odugbesan (Cardiff Archers) in the Under-15 girls pentathlon, which was sealed with a total of 3,120 points.
Odugbesan picked up new personal bests in the high jump, shot put and long jump on her way to an impressive victory, which included three individual wins.
In the under-15 boys pentathlon, Aidan Angilletta (Deeside) finished second to Tristan Lamprecht (Macclesfield Harriers), with a total of 2555 points.
Angilletta, claimed a new PB in the shot put as well as wins in the high jump and long jump.
In the masters women heptathlon, Amanda Broadhurst (Wrexham) claimed a bronze medal with a total of 3719 points, which included wins in the shot and the 80m hurdles.

TROFEO DE ATLETISMO CIUDAD DE SALAMANCA MEMORIAL “CARLOS GIL PEREZ – SPAIN, JUNE 1
Cardiff’s Dewi Hammond clocked a season’s best of 10.32 as he finished fifth over 100m in Spain. The race was won in 9:90 by Shainer Reginfo Montoya, of Cuba. Hammond earlier won his heat in 10.43.

BMC MILLFIELD BP CLASSIC – STREET, JUNE 1
There were some excellent performances by young Welsh middle distance runners in Street on Saturday.
The Men’s 800m C race saw a Newport Harriers one-two with Harry Bradley finishing first in 1:56.9 ahead of club-mate Henry Evans in 1:57.6. Both athletes claiming new PBs.
The Men’s 800m A race saw Craig Williams (Newport Harriers) finish second in 1:57.0.
Meanwhile, the D race saw Dylan Evans (Newport Harriers) finish second in a new PB of 1:59.50. In the same race, there were PBs for Macsen Toogood (Carmarthen Harriers) who clocked 2:00.45 in third and Lucas Salvage (Newport Harriers) who also returned 2:00.45.
The Men’s F race was won by under-15 athlete Noah Bradshaw (Newport Harriers) in a PB of 2:08.90, while club-mate Xander Meddins was third in 2:11.85.
In the Men’s G race, under-17 athlete Cai Lewis (Lliswerry) won in a new PB of 2:16.20.
Lilly Oakenfull (Newport Harriers) claimed a new PB of 2:14.3 as she won the Women’s 800m B race. Meanwhile Poppy Turton (Newport Harriers) was second in a new PB of 2:23.98 in the Women’s 800m D race.
Under-17 athlete Alfie Osborne (Cardiff Athletics) claimed a 4:13.9 PB as he finished third in the Men’s 1500m B race.

TY GWYN ABERSOCH 10K 2024 - JUNE 1
The picturesque Ty Gwyn Abersoch 10K took place in beautiful weather on Saturday.
Sophie Wood (Sale Harriers) made the most of the conditions and stunning finishing line on Abersoch Beach as she broke the 11-year-old course record to win the women’s race in 36:15.
Sale team mate Laura Barber finished second in 39:33, while Paulena Kremling was third in 40:27.
The men’s race was won by Tomos Roberts (Meirionnydd Running Club) in 32:33 as he finished ahead of Meirionnydd club-mate Russell Bentley, who clocked 33:26. Ben Harding (Kent AC) was third in 33:48.
BE FIT TODAY TA OUTDOOR SERIES – LEE VALLEY, JUNE 2
National development programme athlete Lewis Stephens clocked an unconfirmed PB of 10.56 at Lee Valley.
Full results yet to be confirmed.
THE PORTHKERRY 5 MT 2024 - JUNE 2
Now in its 19th year, the five mile mixed terrain race is set within the 220 acres of Porthkerry Country Park, with stunning views of the Bristol Channel and Glamorgan Heritage Coast.
The men’s race saw a clean sweep of the podium places by Les Croupiers Running Club athletes, with Oliver Williams breaking the tape in 29:29. John Morris was second in 31:34 and Alex Price was third in 32:14.
Les Croupiers’ success continued in the women’s race which was won by club member Rachel Lammin in 38:56. Joanne Johnson (Almost Athletes/RAF) was second in 39:35 with Dawn Howles third in 41:43.
DAMBUSTER TRAIL RACE 2024 - LLYS Y FRAN RESERVOIR, JUNE 2
The Dambusters Trail Race, supported by the TROTS running club enjoyed a record breaking entry on Sunday.
Emerging from the big field was Joseph Brown (Vegan Runners) who claimed the win in 34:08 ahead of Gary Wyn Davies (Aberystwyth) in 35:04 and Michael Wright (NBLRS) in 36:31.
The women’s race was won by Nerys Jones (TROTS) in 39:30. Lucy Walwin was second in 40:25 with Bethan Williams third in 40:49.

DSAUK (DWARF SPORT ASSOCIATION NATIONAL GAMES)
The previous weekend, Welsh F40 para athlete Josh Grist (DSW Para Athletics) won gold in the shot, discus,100m and 60m. He also won silver in the 100m relay.
