THE WEEKEND ROUND-UP - Elite Competition returns in Wales

Welsh Athletics were delighted to receive permission to hold an Elite-only throws competition at the newly-refurbished Newport on Saturday 13th February – the first elite sports competition to be held in Wales since restrictions were imposed in December.
A small cohort of Welsh Athletics & Disability Sport Wales discus throwers took to the circle in a preparation opportunity ahead of the annual Loughborough Winter Throws Invitational in two weeks’ time.
Despite the sub-zero temperatures and occasional snow flurries, athletes displayed some excellent early-season form with a personal best throw of 42.94m from Zachary Tandy (F44) and with James Tomlinson producing a mark just over a meter away from his best with a throw of 52.03m. Harrison Walsh (F44) also opened up with an impressive throw of 52.14m, his second furthest performance ever.
Our thanks go to both the athletes and the officials present, who made the competition an enjoyable and beneficial opportunity for all parties. We now look ahead to our next elite competition on 6th March.

Bryggen Sports in Manchester - 13.02.2021
There was a great performance by Piers Copeland at the Bryggen Sports Invitational to win the 1500m in an indoor P.B. of 3:38.55. Charlotte Arter also ran well for 2nd over 3,000m in 9:00.78. Ieuan Thomas had a solid run earlier for 4th in 8:00.55. The 400m saw some excitement where Joe Brier ran an indoor PB of 47.16 to win his race and Owen Smith won his race in 47.76.

After 2 years away, Elliot Slade made a return to indoor running out in America with a busy weekend. Slade competed in the medley relay doing his part in covering 1200m of the race, followed by an 800m where he ran a respectable 1.50.89 and finished the weekend with a leg in the 4x400m where his team broke their school record! Great to see Elliot back running well!
Loughborough Elite Indoors - 14.02.2021
There was a return to the pit for Olivia Breen 4.61m (iPB) in the Long Jump and Rebecca Chapman 5.99m. Adele Nicoll showed that she is in good form with a throw of 15.10m in the Shot Put. Over the 60m, 2020 British 100m finalist Jeremiah Azu ran 6.84.
