With restrictions still in place in Wales, meaning that only athletes with elite exemption can access competition, Welsh Athletics hosted another Endurance Invitational meeting on Wednesday 21st April at Cardiff International Sports Campus.

Despite the cool and windy conditions, athletes produced some high-quality performances including a victory in the 5000m for the in-form Kristian Jones (Swansea Harriers), and a personal best of 13:53 for Tom Marshall (Cardiff Athletics) in a return to competitive racing for the first time in 2 years.  James Hunt (Cardiff Athletics) also produced a personal best for the distance on track by almost a minute.

The 1500m saw a victory for GB international Jake Smith, and a strong opening performance for Paralympian Steve Morris, who will no doubt have qualification for Tokyo on his radar this year.

“As always, Welsh Athletics would like to thank our dedicated teams of officials, throughout this pandemic in particular, without whom, the return to competition would not have been possible.”

Also on the 21st Jennifer Nesbitt competed at the BMC Gold Standard Races where she ran a PB of 9:04.75.

In the throws, athletes competed at the Welsh Athletics Elite Field Fest.

In the Shot Put, Adele Nicoll (Ryan Spencer-Jones) won the event with a SB throw of 15.79 Decathlete Curtis Mathews (Lawrence Moore) threw a PB 14.76m to come 2nd, Samantha Callaway came 3rd in 12.71 and Lauren Evans (Matt Wood) came 4th with 9.67.
