Welsh Athletics are delighted to announce the second round of the Modernisation Grant is now open for applications, following the previous round which specifically targeted the Commonwealth Games Legacy earlier this summer. The Modernisation Grant will give our clubs a boost to support activities that will increase engagement, and develop infrastructure and workforce into 2023. Over the years we have been proud to support applications that are leading the way via innovative projects that focus on modernising and developing clubs across Wales.

We welcome applications from our affiliated clubs (up to £2000), Regional Athletics Councils and Schools Districts (up to £1000). Applications that are aligned to the strategy for the sport ‘A vision for Athletics in Wales 2019-2026’, have a focus around increasing engagement and growth of the club, are encouraged and will be held with higher priority.

Applicants can get in touch with their local Club Development Officer for advice on completing the application process or for further guidance on what will be funded.

You can download the application form and guidance notes here!

If you have previously received funding through this grant you will need to complete and return a ‘Project Completion Report’ (if not already completed) prior to applying for funding in 2022.

Completed forms should be emailed to hannah.pretty@welshathletics.org

Menai Track and Field received a fund from the Commonwealth Games Legacy Grant for an award of £2,000.

Our aim was to rebuild the club post pandemic. We set about improving our communication with all our members so we could better advertise what we were doing. This involved introducing the SPONDS App so we could message and communicate in a safeguarding way to all athletes and parents/guardians. We also set about improving our website that had been idle for a couple of years.

We wanted to provide good competition for our athletes, so we fully supported the Lower and Upper YDL leagues. The new Junior League, Regional and National Championships. Cross country leagues and Championships. As a club we have geographic issues with regarding travel costs. We have where we can provide support for travel, accommodation costs to encourage our athletes to take part in events further afield. In doing so this has provided opportunities to athletes that otherwise would not have competed because of the travel costs.

Having the additional funding has meant that the ideas and proposals for the club have been implemented far quicker than if we were to rely on subscriptions alone. It has allowed us to restructure the club that now has a sturdy base to build on. We aim to continue to implement latest ideas and continue to support the initiatives we have started.

Deadline for applications is Friday 6th January 2023, midday. Completed applications should be emailed to office@welshathletics.org with the subject line ‘Modernisation Grant Round 2 2022’. The Grants Panel will consider and decide on all applications after the closing date and applicants will be notified thereafter.
