Indoor Track and Field Season offers Great Opportunities for Competition

The Welsh Athletics Indoor Junior Open taking place in NIAC will kick off the championship season also hosting the South Wales and East Wales Championships, West Wales Championship events for 200m and above and also the South West England indoor track and field championships on 1st December  followed up with the remaining championships events in the January edition of the Welsh Athletics Indoor Junior Open on 5th January 2020. Specific events can be found on each event page. This will be followed by the bulk of the West Wales indoor championships in Swansea University Indoor Centre on 12th January and the North Wales Indoor Championships taking place in the North Wales Indoor Centre, Deeside on the same day.

 

The 19th January 2020 will see the return of the Cardiff Met Grand Prix which will also host the Senior 3000m championships and the last opportunity for athletes to sharpen their form ahead of the national championships.

 

Once the regional championships are complete, the season will progress onto the National Championships with the seniors taking their turn first returning to the National Indoor Athletics Centre on 25th January. This will also see some events for the junior age group hosted within the Senior Championships including 4 x 200m relay championships for all Under 13’s and Under 15’s, 300m for Under 15 boys and girls, 800m for Under 13 and Under 15 boys, 1500m for Under 13 and Under 15 Girls.

 

The following week on 1st and 2nd February will see the Welsh Junior championships return to NIAC, hosting all remaining events from Under 13 to Under 15. For event breakdown of what is on each day please see the Welsh Junior Championships day 1 & day 2 event pages.

 

There will then be a small break in the domestic indoor season making way for the British Indoor Championships before Vault Cardiff hosts their pole vault exhibition possessing several beds and over 100 athletes which will conclude the season.
