Today, we are delighted to hear Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS) has secured support from the Scottish and UK governments for its proposed plan for hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

James Williams, CEO of Welsh Athletics reacted:

The Commonwealth Games is the only opportunity for an athlete to wear the red of Wales on the International stage and has proved a vital breading ground for athletes to perform at World and Olympic Games.

Today's news will enable our athletes, coaches and staff to plan accordingly. The unique inclusive nature of the Games will no doubt also be the catalyst for further growth in the para athletics programmes across Wales, building on the recent success at the Paralympics.
