New Key Appointments at Welsh Athletics

Welsh Athletics are please to be able to confirm the following appointments;

  • Para Athletics Pathway CoordinatorNeil Taylor will be the first dedicated para lead for Welsh Athletics. Neil has an extensive background in the sport sector in Wales, and joins us from Disability Sport Wales where he was recently their performance pathway officer. The role is joint funded by both Welsh Athletics and Disability Sport Wales and will work to further develop the para offering, with a particular focus on the performance pathway. Neil will join on an initial two year fixed term agreement. He will start with Welsh Athletics on December the 1st.

 

  • National Talent Development Coordinator – Sprints/hurdles/relays – following an open recruitment process,  Rhys Williams will join the performance team. Rhys is a former European and Commonwealth Medallist over 400m Hurdles, and has competed for Wales at two Commonwealth Games. He brings a wealth of experience of competing for over a decade in performance sport. He will join the team in early January and will support the development of the event group across all aspects of the pathway.

 

  • Safeguarding and Compliance Officer – Following the recently completed recruitment process, Carl Williams will take up the new role taking over from the recently retired Steve Jones. Carl will start in his new role on February 1st, following his retirement from Gwent Police, where he was a detective Sergeant and led their safeguarding unit for over a decade. The role will be focused on implementing the recommendations from the recent Quinlan review of safeguarding practices in Athletics.
