Chris Type Appointed Head of Performance

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Type as our new Head of Performance.

As the organisation looks ahead to the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Chris will look to further enhance and develop the structures and systems that been established over the past few years.

A former GB International Pole Vaulter, Chris joins Welsh Athletics from Welsh Boxing, where he oversaw a hugely successful 2022 Commonwealth Games, returning with 6 medals. His previous experiences also include a role as Coach to the British Skeleton team, having also competed internationally, and being part of the squad for 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Commenting on his appointment, Chris shared:

I’m excited by the opportunity to lead Welsh Athletics performance team. The sport of athletics has played such a huge part in my life and I’m relishing the challenge of delivering the new performance strategy.
