Lewis and Davies set to Battle it out at Roundhay Park for British and Welsh Titles and Places on The Plane to Doha

The British Grand Prix of Race Walking will be held at Leeds Roundhay Park on June 30th. The race, which incorporates the British and Welsh 20km Championships and is the British Team Trial event for the World Athletics Championships, has become a major fixture in the British athletic calendar.

In the hotly contested women’s race, two Welsh athletes are in line for the top spot. Heather Lewis (Chris Jones) has had a strong start to the season. She became British Indoor champion over 5000m at the start of the year and on the road has set new PBs over 10km (46:25) and 20km (95:04). Commonwealth Bronze medallist Bethan Davies (Andi Drake) has been looking to return to her form of 2018. Davies is currently number 2 on the UK All-Time list over 20km after clocking 91.53 in 2018 and is the reigning British Champion having won this race last year. In order to ensure automatic selection for the World Championships in Doha, Heather and Bethan will both need to achieve the qualification standard of 93:30, and finish in the top two on Sunday. International athletes entered include Portugal’s Edna Barros who has a personal best of 95.03 and Ireland’s Kate Veal who set her personal best of 97.54 in 2018.
