The combined events development days at Swansea and Cardiff over the weekend were a great success.

Over 80 athletes aged between 10-20 attended across the two days and all had the opportunity to take part in Hurdles, High Jump, Long jump and Shot Put events. These events were chosen in preparation for the Welsh Combined Events Championships which is taking place on Sunday November 3rd. You can enter via our website and entries close on Thursday 24th October 2019.

Alongside Fyn Corcoranthe new National Talent Development Co-ordinator for Jumps and Combined Events, coaches which supported on the day were:

Swansea: Jane Hosgood, Cellan Hopkins, Liz Rowland.

Cardiff: Anna Paterson, Martyn Yemm, Gavin Mitchell, Phil Warwicker, Becca Chapman, Charlotte Wingfield

Speaking about the event, Fyn said:

We are excited by the level of interest in the combined events area and would like to encourage all athletes to try new events or keep practicing as many events as they can to help them become better, stronger, more robust athletes in the future. This was the first of many Combined events and Jumps development afternoons coming in the near future to all regions as well as Regional and then National development pathway days for our more experienced athletes. Thank you to all who attended, every athlete made an important positive contribution with their attitudes and abilities, their clubs and coaches should be proud. Thank you to all coaches for their enthusiastic, athlete-centered sessions and to Zoe Brown for attending in a coach development capacity.

With the success of this first event and a large turnout of athletes interested in combined events, we hope to see the interest grow in Wales and the development of our grassroots athletes as strong multi-event athletes grow over the next few years.
