U15 Girls

Nia Powell (Cardiff Archers – Phil Warwicker) came away with a Bronze medal from the U15 Girls Hexathlon, scoring 3326, to also win the Welsh title overall. In the Welsh event, it was Matilda Quick (Swansea Harriers – Catherine Collins) who finished 2nd with 2869 for 12th overall and Seren Redfern (Stockport T&F – Joe Frost) 3rd with 2676 for 17th overall, out of 32 starters.

Nia Powell started well, running the quickest 75m hurdles of the day with 11.84 for a PB. She backed that up with a 5.11 Long Jump (2nd furthest of the day) and a PB Javelin of 25.27, to end day 1 in the lead.  Day 2 was always going to be tough for Nia to hold on, with strong events from her competitors still to come; but a solid Shot (8.28), High Jump (1.47), and 800m (2.33.34) was enough for her to hold on to a well-deserved Bronze medal overall.

Elsewhere, Matilda Quick threw the third furthest Shot of the day with 10.54, whilst Seren Redfern jumped a PB in the Long Jump with 4.88.

U17 Women

Three Welsh U17 Women made their way to Manchester for the U17 Heptathlon. Stephanie Jones (Stockport T&F – Joe Frost) took the Welsh Title scoring 4338, to finish 8th overall. Sophie Lisk and Isabella Wigley (both Cardiff Archers – Phil Warwicker) finished 2nd and 3rd in the Welsh Championships, scoring 4253 and 4030 respectively, for 11th and 14th, out of the 29 athletes that started.

Stephanie Jones built her Welsh winning score with an equal PB in the Long Jump (5.81), and a PB in the final event of the weekend, running 2.34.99 in the 800m. Sophie Lisk had a solid weekend throughout, also achieving two PB’s in the 200m (26.86) and 800m (2.30.10). Meanwhile, Isabella Wigley came away with three individual PBs from the weekend – 80m Hurdles (12.21), Shot (9.04) and 200m (26.11).
