This weekend marks the start of the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships, which will see 7 Welsh athletes represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Paris, France.

The first Championships to take place since 2019 will get underway with just over a year to go until the 2024 Paralympic Games, which will also be held in Paris.

Reigning Commonwealth Games 100m Gold Medallist Olivia Breen (City of Portsmouth) will get the action underway for the Welsh athletes on Day 3 in the 100m.

Day 4 will see both Sabrina Fortune (Deeside AAC) and Funmi Oduwaiye (DSWPA) take to the field, with Fortune competing in the F20 shot put and Oduwaiye competing in the first of her two events in the F64 discus.

Hollie Arnold (Blackheath and Bromley) will compete in the F46 javelin on Day 5, and Olivia Breen (City of Portsmouth) will be back on Day 6 in the T38 long jump.

Day 8 will see three Welsh athletes compete, with Funmi Oduwaiye (DSWPA) competing in her second event of the Championships, this time in the F64 shot put. Michael Jenkins (Pembrokeshire Harriers) will compete in the F38 shot put, Jenkins has had great success already this season having broken the F38 European discus record throwing a distance of 52.02m earlier this year and targeting the same success in the shot put. And Commonwealth Games Bronze Medallist Harrison Walsh (DSWPA) will be in contention in the F64 discus.

And reigning Paralympic shot put Champion, Aled Davies (Cardiff Athletics) will round off the action in the F63 shot put on the final day of competition.
