This weekend will see the 2023 Welsh U13/U17 & U20 Indoor Championships take place at the National Athletics Centre in Cardiff. Along with the Senior & U15 Indoor Championships, this year’s edition will also include fully integrated para championship events.

This year has seen a 52% growth in entries, and 32% in U13 participation. Across the weekend over 400 athletes will compete across 95 events.

Several athletes that competed in last week’s Championships will also be competing this weekend. Cardiff Archers Aliyah Afolabi claimed two gold medals in the 60m and 200m last weekend and will be hoping to add more silverware to her collection for 2023.

The 60m sprints are shaping up to be tight contests. In the U20 Men’s race Transition Programme Athletes Jac Patterson (Cardiff Archers) and Callum Webb (Cardiff Archers) will come face to face. Patterson (Cardiff Archers) came close to his personal best running 7.11 in the Senior Men’s heats last weekend. Whilst Webb (Cardiff Archers) took home a Senior Welsh Silver medal.

The U17 Men’s 60m will also be an exciting race, with Joseph Berry (Newport Harriers) who won a Senior Welsh Bronze medal last weekend with a time of 6.97. Whilst Aron Tugwell (Cardiff Archers) will also be running, Tugwell (Cardiff Archers) ran a new personal best of 6.94 earlier this year.

After breaking the U15 800m Welsh Record, Lois Codling (Newport Harriers) will be competing in the U17 300m.

Jessica Lee (Carmarthen & District Harriers) finished second in the Senior Women 60m B final with 7.93, Welsh Senior Bronze in the long jump with 5.69.

Nell Desir (Cardiff Archers) will also be competing in the U17 Women 60m, with a personal best of 7.51 and has been running close to that time already this year.
