Athlete Support Programme
Welsh Athletics currently support ten speed athletes as part of the Athlete Support Programme. These athletes will have Great Britain representation in the summer firmly in their sights with several events available in 2019 including; European u20 Championships, European u23 Championships, European Team Championships and the IAAF World Championships.
The national programme has provided an opportunity for the highest ranked athletes in Wales across short Sprints (100m/200m) and short hurdles to spend time together with their personal coaches during the Winter.
National programme objectives:
Raise individual standards (all events)
Develop baseline relay skills across all programmes (Regional/National)
Transition athletes into British teams (u20+, all events)
Challenge Welsh national records (4x100m)
The purpose of the regional programme is to bring together athletes and coaches for event practical and education sessions. Our goal is to develop a network of athletes across the regions with the skills to move up into the national programme and eventually represent Wales.
Regional activity is by invitation to athletes in the u15/u17/u20 age group, however it is open to all coaches. Coaches are welcome from any club or event group regardless of whether personal athletes are invited.
