    Our Targets 

    • 12+ athletes to be within 2% of the 2026 CWG qualifying mark 

    • To develop a minimum of 4 coaches who have athletes achieving the above target 

    • 12+ athletes to be within 2% of the European Junior Qualifying mark 

    • To develop minimum of 6 coaches who have athlete achieving the above target 

    • Welsh participation in every event at British Champs & British Age group Champs.

National Development Programme
 

The National Development Programme is the second step along the performance development pathway and focuses on the top performing young athletes aged between 16-19 across Wales. The programme is underpinned by an Athlete competency framework and follows a 2-year curriculum which aims to provide athletes and their coaches with the necessary skills, knowledge and behaviours to continue their progression in the sport of Athletics. 

 Programme Aims: 

  • To facilitate the smooth transfer of talented Junior athletes to the Senior ranks 

  • To provide a structured programme that addresses the Physical skills, performance behaviours and mental attributes of Welsh athletes 

  • To support coaches of talented athletes to create excellence in the daily training environments 

  • To increase the number of Welsh Athletics athletes at the England Athletics Championships and on U20 Great Britain teams 


Regional Development Programme
 

The Regional Development Programme (RDP) is the first step on the Athlete Development Pathway. The aim of RDP is to deliver event group specific training days for athletes and coaches across Wales. 

The Regional Development Programme is underpinned by athlete and coach competency frameworks. The Regional Development Programme Coach and Athlete Competency Frameworks lay out the skills, knowledge and behaviours we wish to develop in the coaches and athletes who take part in this initiative. The programme is driven by the National Talent Development Coordinators and delivered by Regional Coordinators in each event group.
