Eban Geal
Eban, is a qualified level 1 Field Judge official working towards his level 2 qualification. Despite being only 18 years of age Eban has already officiated at over 10 regional and national competitions across the UK and in his development for the 2025 Island Games continued as he officiated at the Gibraltar 2019 Games, even finishing 4th in the officials’ 400m race.
With officiating at major events and competitions being Eban’s goal, he was invited to officiate as part of the NatWest International Island Games Athletics competition which was a 6 day competition where Eban gained valuable experience in various field events and a variety of different roles throughout the week. This gave Eban the chance at being mentored by higher graded officials and the experience has developed Eban’s knowledge and created lifelong friendships between himself and other officials from across the globe.
Speaking on his experience, Eban said,
“This has been the best experience of my life, I have made lifelong friends and memories which will last forever. I have learnt so much is the space of 1 week at the Island Games and I am looking forward to using some new skills at various competitions across the country so I can develop further and be a level 3 or 4 qualified official by 2025.”
Eban has been actively volunteering his services in the world of athletics. Eban is a Platinum Young Ambassador with the Sport Wales Young Ambassadors scheme and his passion is officiating at athletics events. Eban has officiated in various YDL fixtures, Sportshall Welsh Finals as well as regional indoor and outdoor championships. Eban has developed over the last 2 years and has gained his officiating license and completed his required learning hours on various disciplines.

The benefits of officiating are as follows:
- Develop your skills and understanding of the sport
- Allowing other to participate in the sport from different level, from club to international.
- Meeting new people, and making friends from events including an international competition with others around the world.
