Invited athletes from schools across Wales descend on Brecon on Saturday, July 3rd. for the Welsh Schools Athletic Association SIAB Trial. Those involved in the Hammer, Discus, and Shot events traveling to Neath for their competitions. For this year only the event will replace the National Track & Field Championships following the cancellation of the WSAA Summer Program for the second successive year.

Athletes in the Under 17 age grouping (school years 10 & 11) have received invitations based on performances in Open Meetings and League events this season, so it will be the cream of the crop on the show this weekend. Live results and start lists can be accessed from the link below:

The prize of international representation will await many, for others, it is about experiencing high-level competition in a high-performance environment for the first time. We expect many personal bests to be set, but also new friendships forged, and personal goals achieved as our young athletes looking to move up in performance levels. Winners of events this weekend will be automatic choices for the SIAB event in late September.

The final selection will take place on Wednesday, September 8th. for the 2021 SIAB Track & Field which this year is hosted by English Schools and is at Moreton Stadium, Derby on Saturday, September 25th. The second discretionary places going on performances on Power of 10 rankings by September 8th. This allows plenty of time for those having late starts to their seasons due to the assessment demands of GCSE grades to post performances and put themselves “in the frame”.

"Good luck to all those taking part this weekend!"
