Provisional Fixtures Framework for Competitions in Wales
26/03/2021 00:00, In Blog /
We are pleased to release a draft Track & Field Competition Framework for the summer 2021 season which highlights the main Track & Field competition opportunities in Wales and across the UK.
- Due to the ongoing restrictions, it is likely that changes to the calendar and the dates and formats of competitions may be made intermittently, so please check regularly for any updates.
Despite the ongoing challenges, we are pleased to see the return of the ever-popular event-specific format of open meetings for a wide range of age groups. These competitions will begin on a small, more local scale and expand as the summer progresses.
In addition, we will be advocating the rollout of a new format of multi-disciplinary Junior competition at club level. Further information on this initiative will be disseminated directly to the clubs in due course.
In order to give our Welsh Championship events, the best possible chance of going ahead, and to ensure that athletes have time to prepare appropriately for Championship-level competition, we have taken the decision to delay both the Senior and Junior events until August. The format of these events will be confirmed closer to the time when we understand more about what the landscape and restrictions in Wales will look like.
We will also be publishing revised Return to Competition guidance documents to support clubs and competition providers in organising small local competitions throughout the summer.
The accompanying infographic details the information we know to date regarding a timeline for return to activity across the sport – this will be updated as and when more information is received from the Welsh Government.
The last few months have been some of the most challenging, but we are delighted to now be in a position to advertise a provisional structure for athletics fixtures in Wales for the coming Track & Field season. We delivered some small, but incredibly successful compeititons at the end of last summer and these will form a platform for us to build on as we return to activity in 2021. Changes to this structure are likely with the ever-fluctuating nature of the current climate, but we are really pleased to be able to give athletes, clubs and coaches some target dates for the forthcoming season.
We are very much looking forward to Junior club actvity restarting from this weekend, and to welcoming everyone back to competitions this summer. Once again, thank you to everyone for their patience through what has been an incredibly challenging period.
