Some of Wales’ top road runners will compete at the second round in the 2022 Welsh 10km Road Race Series at the Healthspan Porthcawl 10k.

The current Welsh Cross Country Champion James Hunt will be hoping to win his home 10k race after finishing second here in 2019. His P.B currently sits at 29:43 but could be revised as the Cardiff Athletics athlete targets a win and faces competition from clubmate Mike Ward.

Ward’s previous best for 10km on the road is 29:33 but the Bradley University Alumni has recorded a best for 10,000m on the track of 29:16 set at the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina, back in 2019.

Further contenders include Matt Edwards who won the Stuttgart 10k two weeks ago and is a former training partner of Ward and Guy Smith of Swansea Harriers.

The women’s field is headed by Lauren Cooper of Parc Bryn Bach who set her P.B. of 34:46 at the Leeds Abbey Dash last October.

Alaw Beynon-Thomas was the winner of the series in 2019 and will also be in action in Porthcawl. Local road race regulars Carys Hughes and Helen Sharpe will also be in action.
