The family have never been able to afford a headstone for his grave in St Lawrence’s Church Cemetery, Edgware
Cecil Griffiths is one of Wales’ greatest athletes. He won an Olympic Gold medal in the 4 x 400 metres relay in Antwerp, 1920. He is one of only four Welsh track and field athletes ever to win Olympic gold. He was the British half mile champion in 1923 and 1925 and held many records. His life was difficult and tragic, culminating in his early death in 1945. He was buried in St. Lawrence’s Church Edgware but his family could never afford a headstone and his grave is still unmarked.

The family are now looking to see an appropriate memorial on his grave before his granddaughter who is struggling with cancer passes away. Any money raised in excess of the target will be donated to the charity Sarcoma UK.
