Our first ever Fell, Hill, Off-Road, and Trail running course took place in Wales last month set in the beautiful surroundings along the Jurassic coastline of Dunraven Bay.  The venue lent itself to test attendees’ prior knowledge and gave them the opportunity to try out new skills that were being delivered on the day by the Welsh Athletics course tutors.

There were a total of 15 fully LiRF-qualified leaders in attendance all looking to upskill and reinforce prior knowledge around leading groups safely, on more challenging terrains, and in more remote areas across Wales. The leaders explored ways how to ‘prepare for’ and ‘manage risk’ on different terrains, in varying conditions. As well as planning and keeping group runners safe, tutors also discussed the techniques of Off-Road running, including ascending, descending, and coping with different terrains and the conditions underfoot. The surroundings at Dunraven Bay provided plenty of opportunities to test these ideals during their practical sessions. On receipt of a satisfactory Outdoor First Aid Training Course, all attending LiRF candidates will be insured to lead a group within the limits of the course content.

After the success of these courses we will be planning more Fell workshops in the near future for LiRF & CiRF leaders, so please keep checking in on our coach education calendar here.
