RACE DESCRIPTION

The 118th Welsh Cross Country Championships moves to the Penlan Arena in Brecon on Saturday 25th February. An 11 race programme will start at 11:00 with Primary School Races and conclude with the U20 men’s Championship at 15:10.

Entries for the Championships are made by Club Team Managers and the event will host competitive team races as well as offering Welsh titles and individual medals.

Previous winners in recent years include seven-time Champion Dewi Griffiths, James Hunt, Osian Perrin, Bronwen Owen and former UK Inter-Counties Champions Cari Hughes and Jenny Nesbitt.


ARRIVAL

Ample parking is available at Brecon High School and further parking is available at Brecon Leisure Centre (old school site). Both are only a short walk from the venue. Please do not park on the grass verges along Cerrigcochion Road, outside the entrance to the track - Vehicles may be booked if they do so.


RESULTS

Team Managers will be required to collect their athlete’s number bib’s from the registration area. Any competitors who have entered themselves, may collect their own numbers. Parents / guardian’s can collect numbers for the Primary School Challenge Races.

Numbers must be collected at least 45 minutes before each race start time.


TEAM SCORING

Primary Challenge Races

School years 5 & 6 (9yrs and over) with 4 to score in the team event.

Welsh Championship Races

U13 – U20: 4 to score
Senior Men: 6 to score
Senior Women: 4 to score
Master Men and Women: 3 to score


THE START

Competitors need to be close to the start at least 10 minutes before the start of their race. The Start Co-ordinator will sound a whistle at two minutes to the start when competitors should make their way onto the start line.


THE COURSE

Races will use an undulating and winding course, adjacent to the Athletics track. The course used will be similar to that used for the Welsh Inter-Regional Cross Country Championships in 2021.. It is a competitor’s responsibility to walk the course. The course can be walked at any time but please do not impede on the course during a race. a course map can be found here.


THE FINISH

A barcode timing system will be in use and will replace the disc system used at previous editions of these championships.


RESULTS

Provisional results are available “LIVE” from the Opentrack Website and can also be found via the Welsh Athletics website.


PRESENTATIONS

Race presentations will take place as soon as possible after each race. The presentation area is near the finish area. Awards will be made to the both the first three athletes in each race and to the first three teams.


FACILITIES

A caterer will be in attendance, selling hot and cold refreshments. Toilets are available on-site at the outbuilding near the finish area and changing are available at the venue. Further catering and toilets / changing are available for use at the Leisure Centre.

Our retail store will be open at the event, with t-shirts starting from £17.50 and hoodies from £30. We will be taking both cash and card payments.
