Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

WHERE & WHEN

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will take place this summer between 28th July and 8th August, kicking off with the Opening Ceremony at Alexander Stadium on 28th July.

This year’s games will be held in venues across the Midlands, including the Alexander Stadium, Coventry Stadium & Arena, Edgbaston Stadium, the NEC, University of Birmingham, Warwick, whilst the track cycling will be held at the Lee Valley Velopark in London.

WHAT EVENTS

The event features 26 sporting events, including Athletics, Aquatics, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rugby Sevens and Triathlon to name a few. For the first time women’s T20 cricket, 3 x 3 Basketball and 3 x 3 Wheelchair Basketball has been included into the sports programme, with the 2022 Games offering the largest para-sports inclusion in Commonwealth history.

ATHLETICS AND PARA ATHLETICS

With 59 medal events, including a fully integrated Para Sport programme, athletics will showcase feats of superhuman speed, strength, endurance and agility at Birmingham 2022. With events ranging from ten seconds to two days in duration, there will be no shortage of memorable moments.

On the track, you can enjoy everything from the breathless excitement of the 100m sprint to the lung-busting intensity of the 10,000m, while the action will also hit the streets of Birmingham in the Games’ ultimate test of endurance, the marathon.

On the field, throwers of javelins, hammers, the discus and the shot will look to go the distance in their own battles for supremacy, while athletes will make a leap for a podium place in the long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault.

If that wasn’t enough, the multi-event decathlon and heptathlon will see athletes look to emerge victorious from a range of events, testing their capabilities to the very limit.

SCHEDULE

Throughout the 12 days there is a jam-packed schedule with something for everyone to enjoy. For athletics, the entertainment kicks off with the marathon at 7am on Saturday 30th July around the streets of Birmingham. The fun then continues from Tuesday 2nd - Sunday 7th August at Alexander Stadium where you can watch all your favourite athletes compete in the track and field events.
