Your voice, your sport: the 2026 Members' Survey is now open
26/08/2026 00:00, I Mewn Blog /
The Welsh Athletics Members' Survey is back for 2026 - and it's now open. Whether you compete, coach, officiate, volunteer behind the scenes or simply love to run, jump and throw, this is your chance to tell us what's working, what isn't, and where we should focus next. It takes around 10 minutes to complete, and it closes on 23 September 2026.
Before you dive in, here's a look at what you told us last year, what we've done about it, and what's changed this time around.
What you told us in 2025
Last autumn, 396 members from more than 80 clubs took the time to share their experiences. It was the most detailed picture we've ever had of how our membership feels — and we're grateful to everyone who took part.
The headlines were both encouraging and challenging. 82% of senior and junior members told us that Welsh Athletics membership is good value for money, and clubs earned our warmest feedback of all, with a community satisfaction score of +59 — rated “great” on the Net Promoter Score scale we introduced as a new baseline measure. At the same time, Welsh Athletics’ overall satisfaction score sat at -16, an honest signal that, as a governing body, we have real room to grow. One theme came through clearly: too many members simply weren't sure what Welsh Athletics does for them.
We heard from every part of our community — athletes and parents, coaches and run leaders, officials, masters athletes and club volunteers — and we've used all of it to shape a concrete action plan.
You spoke. We're acting.
Feedback only matters if it leads to change. Four areas in particular are now driving our work.
Coaching systems. You told us the platforms coaches and leaders rely on were clunky and hard to navigate — 44% of coaches said the systems weren't easy to access. In response, we're launching a new online platform in autumn 2026 to modernise and improve the learner journey, with clearer guidance and signposting throughout.
Workforce development. Coaches, officials and volunteers all asked for more development and recognition. We've created a dedicated workforce development plan, appointed a new Club and Volunteer Support Officer, and secured £90,000 of funding to build local volunteer pathways into clubs and events.
Membership value. While 82% of you saw membership as good value, many weren't sure exactly what it includes. We're putting that right by showcasing the benefits and support already on offer — from grant help to club clinics — and revamping our membership packages to add even more value.
Fundraising and facilities. Clubs told us they didn't always know where to look for funding beyond their own members. We've since secured £890k through the Sport Wales Capital Grant for 11 infrastructure projects, and we're running a series of funding webinars this autumn and winter to help clubs find and win the support they need.
These are just the priorities — the full action plan touches every group who responded, and we'll keep reporting back on our progress.
A shorter, sharper survey
You gave us one more piece of feedback loud and clear: the survey itself was too long. In 2025 it ran to more than 80 questions and took over 20 minutes to complete — and we know that put many of you off finishing it, especially our younger members.
So we've listened, and we've halved it. The 2026 survey takes around 10 minutes and uses smarter routing so you only ever see the questions that are relevant to you. Answer as an athlete, a coach, an official, a club volunteer — or several of these — and the survey adapts to you. We've also sharpened the questions themselves so your answers translate into clearer actions.
Have your say
Every single response helps us build a better Welsh Athletics for the whole community. The more of you who take part, the more confident we can be that we're acting on what our members truly want.
The survey is open now and closes on 23 September 2026. As a thank-you for your time, everyone who completes it can enter our prize draw — we'll be giving four £25 Amazon vouchers to four lucky members.
Later this year, we'll share results of the survey and our plans to take action so you can see exactly how your feedback is shaping the sport we all love. Thank you for being part of it.
