Welsh Junior Indoor Championships 2019 - Event Report

It was another brilliant weekend of action at the Welsh Junior Indoor Championships as some of Wales' best Junior athletes descended on Cardiff depsite the snowy conditions. 

Day 1 - Saturday 2nd February

It was all about the short sprints on Saturday as three Championship Best Performances were recorded in the respective 60m age group finals. In the u13 Girls Final, Cardiff Archers' Nell Desir equalled Hannah Brier's 8.23 Championship Best, whilst Arthur Powell(Maldwyn Harriers) ran 7.29 to win the U15 Boys 60m, just 900th of a second off the Championship Best of 7.20 from 2002.

Cardiff's Jeremiah Azu stormed to victory in the Junior Men's 60m with a new Championship Best of 6.79 seconds, whilst Joseph Berry(Newport Harriers) clocked 7.95 seconds in the u13 Bioys 6-0m Final to set a new Championship Best. 

In the field, Swansea's William Trott reached new heights as he recorded 3.63m in the U15 Boys Pole Vault to set a new lifetime best and Championship Best, whilst in the Junior Men's Pole Vault competition, Millfield School's Jacob Clark was the overall winner with a new Championship Best height of 4.73m.

Day 2 - Sunday 3rd February 

There were further outstanding performances on Sunday, as Cardiff's Ben Reynolds stormed to victory in the U17 Men's 800m with a Championship Best of 1:56, whilst Isabel Thomas (Cardiff AAC) also broke the longstanding Championship Best in the U17 Women's Pole Vault with 3.43m. 

The U13 Girls 200m was a fantastic battle for victory between Olivia Gillespie (Newport Harriers) and Nell Desir (Cardiff Archers), with the Newport athlete sealing victory in 26.93 ahead of Desir's 27.02 - both athletes breaking the previous Championship Best in the process. 

The U13 Girls Long Jump was won by Rhymney Valley's Cerys Radcliffe, who equalled the Championship Best with a jump of 4.61 metres, whilst Sarah Omoregie (Cardiff AAC) alo broke the Championship Best in the Junior Women's Shot Put with 14.63m
