Welsh Athletics Coach Education Update

23/02/2026 00:00, I Mewn Blog /

Welsh Athletics is transforming coach education to empower coaches across Wales like never before. Our Advanced Coach pilot programme, delivered in partnership with England Athletics, is leading the way in developing On Track performance coaching. The programme offers personalised mentoring, reflection, and vibrant peer collaboration, giving Welsh coaches a real voice in shaping the future of performance coaching.

Alongside our new Athletix Activators qualification which will be launched in the Spring, we’re also modernising our current qualification pathway, introducing new flexible options so coaches can further specialise in additional Event Group areas like speed, jumps, throws, endurance (track and off-track), and wheelchair racing.  This gives our coaches the tools to develop their expertise and make a bigger impact.

A major focus is also improving our digital systems, with a new Coaching Platform which we will be launching this summer. This new platform goes a long way to meet the needs of our coaching community who have long said they want to simplify managing qualifications, licensing, and course bookings. We’re committed to following through on this valuable feedback, making it easier than ever for coaches to stay up to date, supported, and fully in control of their development.

Our Coach Education Team remains dedicated to building a connected, confident coaching community across Wales, supporting modern coaching practices and meeting the needs of all our coaches, athletes, clubs, and social running groups alike.
