Weekend Roundup: Three Welsh athletes heading to Boras, Sweden as Clowes dominates the Swansea Half Marathon

England Athletics U20/U23 Championships - June 21-22
James Tomlinson, Sarah Omoregie and Jeremiah Azu have all booked their place at the U20 European Championships in Boras, Sweden next month. Tomlinson threw just short of his personal best, to take gold. Omoregie threw another automatic qualifier to win the Shot Put and Jeremiah took the gold in 100m. Despite running through the line clenching his hamstring, he told the reporters that he is fine and looking forward to challenging gold in Boras next month.

Welsh Athletics League, Fixture Three, Aberdare - June 22
The Welsh Athletics League continued on Saturday with the third fixture of the season at the impressive new track at the Sobell Sports Centre in Aberdare.
Swansea Half Marathon - June 23
Cardiff's Matt Clowes and Thames Valley Harrier Tracy Barlow both retained their Swansea Half Marathon crowns on Sunday morning. The Cardiff Athletics man finished ahead of Swansea Harrier Josh Griffiths in a repeat of last year's result. Clowes stopped the clock in a time of 65:49, just over a minute outside his course record. Local favourite and 2017 British Marathon Champion Griffiths clocked 66:37. Cardiff Athletics' James Hunt finished fourth in a massive personal best of 68:58, slashing more than five minutes off his previous best. There was also a PB for Richard Jackson-Hookins, of Les Croupiers, who finished sixth in a time of 71:13.
In the women's race, Barlow won for the second year on the trot, this time clocking 73:39 ahead of Bristol and West AC's Charlotte Taylor-Green in 76:58. Swansea Harrier Alaw Beynon-Thomas (Kevin Evans) finished fourth in 80:57 and Lizzie Dimmond, of Lliswerry Runners was 10th in 87:46.
Steve Jones One Mile Series - Race 2, Parc Bryn Bach, Tredegar - June 21
Cardiff Athletics' Jake Smith ran a new course record to win the second event in the Steve Jones One Mile Series on Friday evening. Smith crossed the line in a personal best of 4:13, just edging out Wales and Great Britain steeplechaser Ieuan Thomas who clocked 4:15. The first two were followed home by their coach and club mate, former Wales and GB international James Thie in 4:33.
The first female home was Harri Like, of Torfaen, who clocked a personal best of 5:40. There were also PBs for Sarah Coote, of Parc Bryn Bach, in 5:55 and Torfaen's Rachel Brenton in 5:58.
RunFest Rhyl, 5K, 10K, Half Marathon - June 23
This year's Runfest half marathon in Rhyl was won by Martin Green, of North Wales Road Runners, who crossed the line in a time of 1:18.22. Runner up was Newcastle Staffs AC's Daryl Smallwood, in a time of 1:22.42. In third place was Andrew Baker, who clocked 1:30.03. The women's race was won by Anya Lawrence, of Birchfield Harriers, in 1:39.31ahead of Emma Holder, of Eastbourne Rovers in 1:43.38 and Tracy Aldridge-Jones in 1:45.29.
Winner of the men's 10K race was John Stringer in 37:33, who beat Josef Hayes, of Deeside AAC, in 38:05 and Paul Ross in 38.16. Sarah Wealleans, of Kirby Milers AC, claimed the women's race in 43:58, ahead of Lauren Watchorn, of Deeside, in 44:21 and Tesni Buddug in 47:12.
The 5K event also hosted the North Wales 5K Championships and the first runner home by some distance was Gog Triathlon's Simon Cole, who broke the tape in 15:41. Second and third were Meirionydd team-mates Gwion Roberts in 16:32 and Ross Welsh in 16:52. The women's 5K winner was Emma Crowe, of Wrexham AC, who won in 18:35. Second was Amie Bagnall, of Prestatyn Running Club, in 18:54 and third was Maddison Griffiths, of Maldwyn Harriers, in 19:29.
Perth parkrun, Scotland - June 22
Swansea Harrier Kris Jones ran the fastest parkrun time in the entire UK on Saturday morning. The Wales and Great Britain track, road, cross country and orienteering international clocked a winning time of 14:41.
