Valencia Marathon, 3 December

History was made at the Valencia Marathon on Sunday, with Clara Evans (Pontypridd Roadents) breaking the Welsh Marathon Record in a time of 2:25:04. The time sees Evans go under the Olympics Qualifying standard! The Pontypridd Roadents athlete was also the first British female athlete across the finish line.

Emily Kearney (Warriors) was also in action in the women’s race, finishing in a time of 2:35:55. And in the men’s race, there was a PB for Dan Nash (Cardiff Athletics), completing the marathon in 2:15:22.

Cardiff Met Schools Combined Events International, 2 December

The annual Schools Combined Events International returned this weekend at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff, which saw the Welsh Schools Athletics Association take away three team medals and two individual medals.

Both the U18 & U16 girls finished the day with bronze medals. The U18 team consisting of Matilda Quick (Morriston Comprehensive), Megan Taylor (Cardiff High School), Nia Powell (Ysgol Llanhari), and Evie Aitchison (Morriston Comprehensive) completed the day with an overall points score of 13,232. While the U16 team of Olivia Scrimshaw (Ysgol Brynhyfryd)), Beatrice Morgan (Ysgol Bro Dinefwr), Tiana Ogubesan (Blackwood Comprehensive), and Mari Wilson (Ysgol Y Strade) finished with 12,222 points. Olivia Scrimshaw (Ysgol Brynhyfryd)) also took gold in the individual competition with a score of 3411.

There was also team success for the U18 boys’ team, finishing with a silver medal. The team of Luca Phillips (Cowbridge Comprehensive School), Abdullah Afolabi (St David’s College), Osian Parry (Radyr Comprehensive School), and Salem Kiambi (Whitchurch High School) completed the day with 13,271 points. There was also individual success for Luca Phillips (Cowbridge Comprehensive School) who picked up silver with 3593 points, which was a new Cardiff Archers Club Record.

Gwent Cross Country League, 2 December

The third meeting of the Gwent Cross Country League took place on Saturday in Blaise Castle, Bristol.

In the senior women’s race, Alaw Evans (Les Croupiers) took victory with a time of 24:28. Whilst in the men’s race Adam Bull (Pontypridd Roadents) was the first Welsh athlete to finish, finishing with a time of 28:15. Both athletes currently lead their respective leagues following three fixtures.

World 24 hour championships, 1 December

On Friday Jen Coleman (Les Croupiers) represented Great Britain and Norther Ireland at the World 24-Hour Championships, in Chinese Taipei. Coleman finished 86th over the 156km distance.

Junior Indoor Open 1, 3 December

The first of the Welsh Athletics Junior Indoor Opens took place on Sunday at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff, incorporating the South, East & West Wales and the Southwest England Regional Championships.

Over 300 athletes took to the track and field, with many new PBs!
